What about Marine vs Marine games?
I'd love to see some of that action.

That would be super cool. Can you not fight rine vs rine atm?

No you can't "rine vs rine" at the moment, and it's unlikely that they'll add it.

We are getting some biomorphs for the genestealers though, to shake things up a bit.

I own all the dlc for this game. I'd play another 20 dollars to be able to play some one marine vs marine. If you read the books this is not such an uncommon thing for them to fight each other.

Marines revolve around camping with Overwatch or Guard. Therefore, you can't have Marine vs Marine. It's not a matter of factions or lore, it's a matter of game design mechanics. Both sides would just camp and wait for the other to come, unless the computer Marine is programmed to be stupid. What sense would that make? It makes sense for endless bugs to be stupid and death charge into waiting guns, but not soldiers. They could add aliens that shoot though, which would basically give you what you're asking for. Tyranids do have shooting breeds. We do need more alien classes in this game. There's only 2 in the regular campaign, and the second is only in 2 of the missions.

As discussed in earlier threads, making an AI that for Marines is really tricky, so not something we're prioritizing at this point.
A shame, I'd love to kick some Dark Angel♥♥♥♥♥with my pups.

SM vs SM could maybe work with a limited number of turns to accomplish your mission to force the marines to move.
But yeah in other missions both players will go into overwatch and no one will be willing to move first.

Naturally chaos marines could be fun to play. But I agree that there is greater priority stuff.

SM vs SM could be player vs player till you figure out the ai.

About the only scenarios that work would be Capture the Flag, Extermination (eradicate the opposing side), Sweep and Clear (Flame x rooms for both sides), Slippery Pig (both sides chase a CAT or something around the board), Keep Away (One player starts with a relic, both want to get it to Exit Point) and Strategic Withdrawal. Scenarios that require one or both sides to be on the move constantly in order to complete an objective or ones which require actively hunting the opposing side in order to win the match. And in the case of the latter scenarios, that means including a Turn Limit for the aggressor and modifying the defender's load-out to limit the turtling options.

The first problem with this is that neither side gets reinforcement Blips, so the whole dynamic of the game will change. It's one thing when you have to face down a horde of Chaos Marines or an Ork Waagh, but another entirely to face down other Space marines who follow a rigid unit structure similar to your own. Additionally, from a technical standpoint, this idea would also likely require some signifcant recoding to the Briefing format, because unlike with Genestealers the briefing for one side won't be as simple as "Kill all the invaders." That actually might detract from the authentic translation feel of the existing game.

It would be a nice change of pace, I agree. I'm just considering that it won't be something that can be implemented overnight. A great deal of care would have to be taken to make it authentic and keep it in WH40K canon.

Other issue... can't say i'm familiar with more recent iterations of 40k, but when I last played, storm bolters against terminator armour was kind of a waste of bolts.

Yeah, the inv. save. (or was it just 2+?) You'd have to give them heavy las/plas.

Seems to be contrary to the core mechanics of the game really. If you think the single roll of the dice that resolves combat is the thrust of the action its not. It's positioning, overwatch and managment of command points. That's Space Hulk.

If you want Marine vs Marine, off you go to your nearest GW store and get a 2,000 point army that you will assemble and paint and then field on tabletop.

Space Hulk is 'nids vs delicious biomass.

Without variety, the game will not have significant longevity. And given that the name of the game is "Space Hulk", I'd say that it's actually about Space Hulks and their potential denizens.
