Incredibly bad lag
I cant seem to properly play because my game is really laggy. I am playing this on my laptop, can anyone recommend some ways to help fix the lag.

Additional information about lag: The mouse is pointer moves farther then I want it to
my characters movements are slow,
I cant properly click on a target cause the mouse fly's over their heads, its just all around difficult to play so any suggestions would really be appreciated so I can continue to enjoy this game.
Also I am new to the DC Universe Online :D I heard it was a must have if looking for PC games.

try using a controller for this game. buttons are already mapped out, and it is much easier to target with the movement stick then it is with keyboard/mouse setup.

as for the lag, do you have enough ram? remember that you are playing on a megaserver.

The mouse issues I'm not sure what it could be. The lag issues depending on how they happen, add the process as a scan exception in your virus/malware software, not the folder or the files just the the process as its running. See if that helps.

Try different resolutions, also contact support, see if they have any ideas re: the mouse issues.

DC Universe online lags when installed through STEAM, does not lag when installed directly. This lag is the same interval and same length in every STEAM game I play. Definitely something STEAM is causing with a background process. But I've turned off STEAM community access and I've set the connection speed to lowest setting. This was fixed for a bit, then started up again after the last STEAM update.

People keep coming up with stupid hardware recommendations and such. Nobody wants to just admit this is a STEAM issue. I suggest more people who can try to install both versions of the game and get back to this post.

If you only have 6GB of RAM that would most likely be the problem, especially if you are running a lot of program's as well with the game, steam is a big RAM killer, try upgrading to a desktop computer, laptops are overall plan crap :)

I only have 4gb of RAM and I can run DCUO just fine. But yeah, it's probably the laptop's fault.

Yea it turns out its my Graphics card. its integrated and not very good. :(

I have 8GB of RAM, no extempranious programs, and DC Universe runs fine installed outside STEAM even with STEAM running. But installed in STEAM it lags. It also doesn't lag in or out of STEAM on an old RAD 2300XL card, but chokes in STEAM only (not installed seperate) now on the newer NVIDIA card which actually has more VRAM. Not only that, STEAM continuously tells me to update my video card when it's already running the newest driver. I believe this is a STEAM video incompatability issue.

it could be that.

Install the non-steam version of DC Universe Online. It's free either way.
Socratesfoot Jul 12, 2014 @ 6:37pm
That was my solution

I run the steam version fine on 4gb. In your case while steam appears to be the culprit, it is most likely down to a software/hardware conflict of some sort that is affecting steam especially as you are having it with more than one game, if it was directly down to steam everyone would have it and we clearly do not.

While you might not have the problem yourself, there are a substancial enough number of people having it that you could well be the exception to the rule and not the norm. I think your statement that it's all or nothing so must be hardware is short sighted Ceejay. There are a lot of reasons you might not have this issue while others do such as the additional lag caused by STEAM reletive to regional server speeds, the choice to use or not use voice chat, or even a config file that works if grandfathered in but when created new by STEAM causes issues.

Obviously many will suggest checking hardware and that's always good advice. But some like myself have had this issue for a while now and it's been on at least six different machines, running 2 different Windows OS versions, and 5 different video cards including a Radion, an NVIDIA, and an Intel...and all with plenty of RAM. I think it's safe to assume if he's asking he's checked his hardware already or at least tried this on different machines both running STEAM.

You actually contracdict yourself by saying there are lots of reasons I may not have the issue. No. If the problem was down to steam directly, I would have the issue, as would everyone else.

If there are lots of reasons why I am not having the issue, by that reasoning then my statement about there being other reasons why you are having the issue (ie hardware/software/network issues) must also be correct. As for multiple machines, I recently had to run it on a 5 year old laptop as I was away from home for a couple of weeks, no lag, running through steam with voice comms, on a much slower connection.

As for your statement about there are substancial enough numbers of people having this issue with steam? Where are you getting your information? At last count steam now has more than 65 million registered users. i really do not see 65 million people posting stating steam is causing them issues.

Go look around at other game forums on here, There are not loads of people having lag issues being direclty caused by steam.but again external factors causing issues with steam, and usually there is a solution for their problem.

I am not saying steam is flawless or that no one has issues, but again if it was directly down to steam and not an external factor, everyone would have the same problems and we clearly do not.
