I need to vent... curse you, Warchief!!
Ok, first of all, I'm loving the game.

For all of you that say the game is too easy, well... I must really suck, because to me, it's quite the challenge. Let's not turn this thread into a too easy/too hard dicussion - plenty of other threads for that. I just need to vent a bit, after last night's frustrations lol...

So I'm at the "kill 4 warchiefs" mission... and it's been a HARD grind for me. I've finally managed to kill 3 of them, but the 4th is proving to be very, very hard to take down.

His only two weaknesses are explosions and ranged (but not 1 shot ranged, of course - he'd be dead by now lol). He's a combat master, a beast killer, flies and carragors just make him mad. But the real kicker is that he's a complete coward - as soon as I get him under 25% or so, he runs away - fast (he also has the sprinting ability). I once managed to get his health down to almost zero (mostly by spamming headshots until I run out), but for some reason when I did I had to do one of those "aim the stick and hit a button" QTE (which I suck at), and when that failed, he was basically at full strength again. I think it comes from the "battle-hardened" ability.

I think this dude has either killed me or run away more than 15 times at this point. Obviously, he's now a level 20.

I know I'll kill him eventually, but yesterday I was about to throw my controller across the room.

That's all. Just wanted to get that off my chest. If any of you experts read this and have a strategy for me, by all means, let me know. At this point, I'll take all the help I can get, lol!

Weak to ranged attacks and explosions? Dude, easy. =p

Tried. Blew him up good, it only took about 1/10th of his HP away. Unloaded all my arrows into his head, that brought him down to about 25%. Finished him off by hand (not easy with combat master), but still failed on that QTE thing. Although he usually runs away by then.

Like I said, I'll get him, but damn.

Unless you have something more useful to suggest than "dude, easy"? ;)

kill some other captains(with bow as final move to get bow runes) and also upgrade your arrow count.
Do you have the pin leg ability? Since he is vulnerable by ranged, when he tries to run you can either pin leg or do a shadow strike to catch up real quick
Combat masters are notoriously more difficult to kill, hence their name. What I found was, if a captain was to difficult to take on, regardless of his weaknesses, do some alternate missions to better your bow, sword and dagger. Unlock more abilities, and more kill finishes. Hunt some other captains and find better runes, then go back and take him on. There are bow runes out there that make your bow 25% more powerful, or runes that make Talion's sword alot more powerful when his health drops below 25%, enabling him to kill quicker. You need to play with a combination of things to find the best methods in dealing with each enemy. What kills one does not kill another. Good luck
I had a similar warchief. I ended up using the 20 seconds of executions ability on him. And still had to chase him, lol.

Ooo, now that's a cool hint. I'd completely forgot about that ability. I'll definitely try that - if I can just pin the bugger down, I think I can finish him off. So tired of screming "GET BACK HERE, YOU %$@&!!" at my screen lol...

Well, it's the combat Master PLUS battle-hardened PLUS coward that's making it really tough on me... at least he doesn't have "hate to lose" - he'd be practically unkillable lol...

Oh, and btw - his name is "Norak the Unkillable". Appropriate. lol

yip.. I had the same issue with him. Also had a few kind words for him when I eventually took his head.
try using your abilties, stunning can be a bliss, daggers may throw him off etc.

Hmm... daggers. Always forget those. Might help if he tries to run away again. Thanks :)
Strange update...

So I go back into the game to try the tips people have posted... but there's no mission to kill the "unkillable" warchief, only what seems to be the "last" warchief mission (the other twin). The game still says 3 of 4 warchiefs killed in the top left.

So I go to the "last" mission start, get the scene with Ratbag hanging there, and kill the last warchief (a pushover, btw). So now Ratbag's a warchief, and my "unkillable" guy is still standing in the Sauron's Army window. I got a new mission to go help the slaves, but that's it.

So what happened? Did I just fail too many times and the game took pity? Did it glitch? Should I have more missions that the slave one? Or am I good to go?

A bit odd, but if everything turns out fine, I'm ok with not having to have killed that other warchief lol... anyone else had this happen to them?
Honestly, I think that I am having more trouble with Caragor's at the minute rather than War Chiefs. Every single time that it tell's me to dodge, I dodge and still die. It's royally pissing me off.

The War Chiefs don't appear all that difficult at the stage of the game that I am at, unless I am fighting one and then 2 more rock up at the same time, which seems to be a common occurance.

hang from a ledge so that they can't reach you then jump in one of them and dominate him and the others should stop attacking you too

Otherwise run towards/through a group of uruks, caragor will no longer follow you.
