Is there a way to change FOV?

In Steam, go to 'Library' & RIGHT click on Train Simulator then select 'Properties' at the bottom of the list. In the panel that opens click on 'SET LAUNCH OPTIONS' then enter

-SetFOV=80

in the box & click OK

You can of course use numbers other than 80 - try a few and see what suits your taste.

What exactly is the field of view?
Glenn Nov 8, 2014 @ 7:20am
how much you can see from side to side. If you keep head still and look straight ahead, the average person can see approximately 182 degrees. Obviously this can't be replicated on a small flat PC monitor screen or a TV (that's why big cinemas have huge curved screens in an attempt to re-create what the eyes can see)

So it's different from the length of the field and the view distance then?

It worked! Thanks guys, it was an easy fix. Makes me wonder why there is not a FOV slider in-game settings? Surely developers could implement this easily into the game?

One reason it's not there is that some cabviews are designed around the limited field of view. If you crank up your FoV you can see that the roof is not solid etc.

Well, it doesn't work for me anymore. Did this happen to anyone else? Strange because I swear it worked before.. Must be some new update that keeps it from working.

Have never in 5,000+ hours of playing the game, driving hundreds of different loco types experienced such problems! So a bit confused by the above statement. I use my own FOV choice (in launch options), typically set at 85. Works a treat.

OK guys, this didn't work for me either. But I've found the answer. Do this-

Go to Steam/Steamapps/common/railworks/dev/scripts/enginescript.lua. Open this up with Wordpad. Towards the bottom you'll see SetFOV (65). 65 is the default setting. Remove 65 and replace it with a higher number. Mine is 90. The higher the number the further away from the windscreen you are, the smaller the number, then you've got your nose on the screen. After changing the figure Windows will ask you if you want to save this. Click "Yes". Now go back to the game and you'll see the difference. Good Luck, but it's worked for me.

Cheers,

John

It stopped working for me a few weeks ago - and I can't for the life of me get it working again.

Thanks, but I take no credit for this, I refer you to a post by I_fish on the 6th January. Just go to the Search Box and type in Set FOV where you'll find more options. But mine's a pint of San Miguel anyway. @Paulokomo - nichts zu danken, fahren Sie sicher weiter!!
