Train Simulator
Nice High Speed Freeware route (Spain LAV: Madrid to Valencia) 100% freeware
LAV Madrid – Valencia
Provided byhttp://www.railsim.es (account needed)

One of my Steam friends pointed me towards railsim.es, the Spanish Railworks community. The site is completely in Spanish, no English option is given however the Google Translate plugins that can be found for the most common browsers should help you a great deal in navigating this first class freeware site and TS community. I found that my questions where answered quickly and in English as well. I decided to start off with the LAV: Madrid to Valencia route, A high Speed route that runs from Madrid to Valencia but also branches off towards Toledo and Albacete. It should come with the Renfe 102 however this train needs to be updated and the update is currently not uploaded. I hope they fix that soon.

Installing the route

The package is fairly big but the people at railsim.es kindly broke it up in pieces.

First you want to download the following packages

Ruta LAV Madrid – Valencia 2.5 http://www.railsim.es/libreriarw/download.php?id=110

Ruta LAV Madrid – Valencia 2.5 Assets Parte-1 http://www.railsim.es/libreriarw/download.php?id=109

Ruta LAV Madrid – Valencia 2.5 Assets Parte-2 http://www.railsim.es/libreriarw/download.php?id=108

Ruta LAV Madrid – Valencia 2.5 Assets Parte-3 http://www.railsim.es/libreriarw/download.php?id=107

Ruta LAV Madrid – Valencia 2.5 Assets Parte-4 http://www.railsim.es/libreriarw/download.php?id=106

Ruta LAV Madrid – Valencia 2.5 Assets Parte-5 http://www.railsim.es/libreriarw/download.php?id=105

Extract 2.5 and assets part 1 to a folder where you can find them back. You only need to extract part one since it will automatically include the other parts. Now use utilities.exe found in …/Steam/steamapps/common/RailWorks to install them using package manager in tab 3, first hit refresh, after it refreshed hit install, browse to the tw rwp files, select them and open.

After an inspection with rw_tools I found some assets missing and asked on the railsim.es forums for a solution

1- For the 102 problems,do you have the 130 and 102 versions installed?. You need the 130 for use the 102 fine. Here is the link:
130 http://www.railsim.es/libreriarw/download.php?id=268

After installing the 130 and running it’s freeroam it proved to be running fine, the 102 I am waiting for untill the update will be posted (at wich point this page will of course be updated as well)

Missing objects:

1- Camber light signals: it’s web was closed a time ago.

2- Developer: it’s decals for doing the route. They are not used in downloadable version, but the autor missed the provider activated and it’s for that RW Tools it shows as “missing”

3- German Railroads: autor missed the provider activated and it’s for that RW Tools it shows as “missing”

4- LucaCanna & RS Italia

Above Assets where missing as well, they won’t influence the workings of the route if not installed but better get them anyways

I will update this post with video by myself soon however for now I will post a video I just found on tube

I would try to get this... only if the links to each for the downloads wouldn't stop sending me to the index...

As the top of the post already said, an account is needed, that is why it is sending you to index. Make a free account and you are set :)
The issues with many freeware routes and scenarios is that they require an enormous amount of additional freeware stuff to operate as intended. You can easily spend a couple of evenings installing this and there's no guarantee whatsoever it will work properly on a particular setup.

I've recently had a look at a French railsim community and found some scenario packs which looked very beautiful. However, almost each pack of 10 scenarios required you following about 20-100 links for freeware stuff. After 30 seconds consideration I decided to skip.

You are correct, there are many freeware routes that suffer from this. Above route is complete as posted minuts the Renfe S102 which I hope is updated asap

I have to admit .... Some of my favorite routes have been the freeware routes that I spent a couple of evenings tracking down the required assets .... Some really nice German routes that have prototypical consist and some very nice scenario. Probably not for everyone, but well worth the effort.

I believe you misinterpreted me a bit here.:) I don't mind using freeware routes and scenarios. I have lots of freeware content installed, in fact. But at some point I became very picky. Especially after a couple of incidents when the routes were looking beautiful in the pictures but with all the additional assets I never made them work as they were intended to. So, time versus final result relation was not in the freeware stuff favor at some point.

I am still using some freeware routes, assets and scenarios, but I install the new ones only if they come completely and properly packaged, so that it's a matter of several clicks to install them and if I see quite positive feedback about them.

Tracking down the assets is probably the hardest part in this case. Even when you speak quite enough of the languages and have no problem interpreting what is written correctly, you are often bound to meet the removed or misplaced links, googling the necessary things etc etc etc. It takes time, which I don't have very much of at the moment (I am both working and getting ready for some very important exams this and the next year and some family issues do crop up regularly) and, after all, I still have tons of already installed content to deal with, so, as I have mentioned, if the process seems to be taking time, I either postpone it or abandon it.
Well, I can't promise nice packed content but I can asure you that if I post about a freeware route, the links I mention are current and tested working, if needed hosted by myself. It's how I did the guide for Northern Europe, this one doesn't really need a guide, just some missing assets need to be downloaded which I hope they will include in next build (if there is any)

I posted this one and the Northern Europe guide to let more people know about the amazing freeware that is out there. First of all many look as good if not beter than the DTG stuff, secondly as a bit of counter against the "this game is the most expencive" topics, it ain't..look at all this wonderful freeware :D

Fair enough - I understand the time drain these routes can be - I unfortunately have to spend 6 to 7 months on the road every year with my IT consulting practice which means I have a lot of hotel time :-).

Was just trying to point out to others reading this thread that at time the fruits of ones efforts in this endeavor can be well worth the effort and if interested and have the time then go for it.

Trust me I understand the time crunch - besides the consulting, I run a horse stable business as well as a health supplement business - life does get in the way of our hobbies at times :-)

I appreciate efforts from people like Mavaledo that take the time and bundle the needed assets or write clear comprehensive guides like he did for the Northern Europe route.

Indeed, you do get what you pay for after all. Personally, if it's free then I cant see anyone has the right to object, a decent payware route will cost you £24 on average, thats like 3-4 hours wages before tax to a normal working person so you can look at the time spent as your payment for it. If you're too busy, then of course youre welcome to give DTG, Just Trains, etc. real cash to have it easier.

I actually live in Spain and have seen these trains so when I have a bit more free time i'm sure it will be worth tinkering with to get.
Since Northern Europe route has been mentioned - I remember something made me abandon it as well (found the link on the same French site), if I am not mistaken it led me to some Danish website. That's where my quest ended. I do speak German, know some Swedish and Norwegian, but that didn't help me in any way. And the website was only in Danish.

I am a little bit confused by 99.9% number :)
Maybe its the old miser in me but I derive more satisfaction from freeware than payware. I've installed a lot of payware and freeware and just the thought that somebody has spent 100's if not 1000's of hours creating something for no personal gain, even if payware is required, makes it more enjoyable for me to use. Also on some of the freeware routes it is noticeable that it is a labour of love and not profit driven, there is much more care and attention paid to the details.

I understand that the time spend asset hunting can be off putting but I found after installing a few freeware routes the asset hunting gets smaller and smaller as you acquire more and more of the freeware assets that are out there.

there is 1 single file that according to the maker of the route has not been used but according to rw_tools is missing. I know the name, what it is but I am unable to find it. I have been searching through 100's of freeware from French packs (it is a french asset, that is for sure) but well, can't find it. It is of no influence on the route itself though. Will have to check the text because after I got assured by the dev the file is moot I should have changed it :)
