Don't blame you my friend. I suspect the vast majority of players (except super enthusiastic US rail fans) will do exactly the same, and wait (& wait as long as need be!) for an appropriate price reduction. DTG seem to have completely priced themselves out of the market this time round.
It is actually a step backwards from the Empire Builder, in my opinion. The first thing I noticed was that the "silver" passenger cars are not shiney, at all. They are a dull grey with no reflection. The Amtrak and Metra cars shine more than these cars! I was glad to see a Gyralite, but no way to control it. The only way to activate it is with the horn; then it lasts for 10 seconds. I do not know if that is the way it works in real life. The rear MARS light dose not move. Finally, the biggest disappointment, is the only passenger view is the dome deck on the obsevation car. This train is advertised as America's premier luxury passenger train -- EVERY CAR SHOULD HAVE A PASSENGER VIEW!!!

So you're saying that they didn't even include a passenger view for the rear of the observation car. Just dome views?!?!?
I really hate talking bad about any Train DLCs cause well I love trains but this DLC is way over priced, The details are amazing, seems like they pay more attention to the details than function. I'm no one to tell anyone how to spend their hard earned money, but please my best advice to anyone is to wait for the next sale for this one. If you're just after looks and not the simulator part then by all means kill that $25, me I'll wait for the next sale for this. I mean its already June. The holloween or thanksgiving sales will be here in no time.
Very disapointing DLC, especially considering the price. In fact, it prompted me to use Steam's refund system. On top of slight modifications to the dated Kuju model, the mars light doesn't oscillate and is not independent of headlight, the cabview is only 180 degrees in the FP7, throttle operates the wrong way (Pulled towards you for power, not away) and the very old 567 sounds were used again. The passenger cars are well done except that steam/air lines were absent and the rear dome is the only car to have a passenger view. There seems to be a lack of QC at DTG.
Basically this is what you get in the pack." Western Pacific’s FP7s quickly became the standard “lead” units for the California Zephyr’s power sets on its western leg. WP’s lash-ups most frequently included one of the FP7s on the point, matched with a pair of F7Bs or F3Bs, and Train Simulator’s California Zephyr set includes Western Pacific FP7 and F7B locomotives in WP’s stylish “Zephyr silver and orange” livery for use on the Feather River Canyon route. And also included in the pack are Rio Grande EMD F9A and F9B diesels ideal for powering the streamliner on Train Simulator’s popular D&RGW Soldier Summit route." plus the carriages.

Obviously you people complaining about the price have never used MS FSX flight simulator or Prepared 3D where one aircraft can cost you more than what we pay for a route. The dearer price in my country is on $6 NZ which really is only peanuts. Yes I have purchased this as I use to see these in National Geographic Mags adverts in the 1950s and thought that they looked really neat. The locos you get in this pack as what I see in its folders are, F7, FP7, F9 and a U30B probably AI.

Summer Sale

Would be nice for sure, if there were a few decent tempting offers. Here's hoping (finger's tightly crossed) as the last couple of TS Steam Sales IMHO have been far from inspiring.. Mind the same could be said for quite a few of the big 3rd party developers/resellers. Hopefuly they're all feeling a bit more generous over the summer period. Although I note TaD have a a short but generous 50% off everything in their webstore jsut now. :)

A lot of the people complaining about the price (and lack of content) in the new Zephyr add-on pack, do happen to have large DLC collections for our game. Hence your forum colleagues having a pretty good grasp for what is good value (in terms of content & quality) for money or not in TS. We can only in fairness compare to the historical prices occuring in our game, which for this particular DLC appears signficantly higher than what one would typically expect. I've personally had considerably better advanced loco packs at this price or lower (top notch vR, VRC, Just Trains, TTB, Armstrong Powerhouse, Aerosoft, RSSLO, IHH, Digitial Traction, 3D Trains offerings etc...), plus I've even had very fine RSC & 3rd party routes for cheaper. So that's the overall bench mark, that guides many of us. I guess at the end of the day, it's whether players are prepared to pay the full release RRP that will determine whether this product is perceived as a good buy or not.

However, I don't think you can fairly compare the price of such DLC to those of an all together different genere of simulator gaming. We all know Flight Simulators including FSX are notoriously expensive at times; that in itself doesn't mean relatively unjustified high prices (for the world that is TS add-ons) should be considered acceptable. And again in fairness to the people complaining here, I suspect quite a high proportion also run flight simulator software as well, all be perhaps not as dedicated as they are to their train-simming. All the best.

I bought the Zephyr DLC just because the F7 and that era locomotives are what I grew up with and I always wanted to take a cross country in those cars... So for me, they were worth the cost, but without that attachment, I can see why many would question the price.

That sounds more like it and probably too long for me to wait. Maybe 25% off at "My" Summer Sale that happens at xmas down here in the sub-antarctic region. "Brrrrr" it's a long way off til summer. Actually I prefer winter as it gives me a better excuse to stay indoors on My PC. :steamhappy:

I remember getting FSX back in 2007 as a birthday gift, and it was $70 then. I've purchased many pieces of DLC from various developers, Aerosoft, A2A, PMDG, VRS, just to name a few. I've purchases mutliple products from each of the developers I just listed. What I get in those packages are planes with detailed systems, planes that have character and uniquness from one another. This DLC does not appear to have it.

It seems heavily based off the Empire Builder, and that sold for $20 when it was released. I can understand that price for a DLC like that one at the time, but now? $25 for what is a very similar DLC in terms of content? It's a bit much.

I understand that effort has gone into this, but nothing here tells me it's worth the price. I've bought enough pieces of TS DLC to know what to look for in quality and value, and this DLC lackes both at the price they are selling it at.
It took them 8 months to build this DLC, and most of it was spent on the rolling stock, at least that is what I picked up from Matt's Twitch stream.

Whether or not it is worth it is a very personal choice, for some it won't be worth it any price, for others the $25 is OK, while more will want to wait for a sale with half off.

So, what are we discussing?
