WCML North - Class 86 Intercity Executive Loco.
Cairstairs Split - Scenario loads ok, but cannot get any traction happening from the Loco. What am I doing wrong ? Any ideas !

If you have the requirements (sale on now!), this route also has functioning neutral sections. https://www.dpsimulation.org.uk/northeastengland.html

Use Sander to lay sand on tracks

Do you know how to use the Tap Charger?

Further to your post, Cat, a run or two with an 87 which has the F4 controls more clearly marked could be helpful,

Thanks for your input. Will try again keeping in mind your suggestions.

You really need to read the manual on the correct use of the throttle/Tap Charger in the Class 86 & 87.

Might help
(Slight plug for a simple tutorial scenario I made up for Matt)

I did finally get the Loco moving ! Made sure both Train Brake and Engine Brake were released, engaged Sander and opened throttle 100% Success ! However, still had a problem maintaining a constant speed. Reset Tap Changer several times, perservered until I got tired of it not responding correctly and gave up. Will look at your Video and have a look at the Manual, I'll keep you posted

Checked the Manual. Watched the Video. Have all the theory required, now will try to put it to good use and complete a Scenario without too many "stuff-ups". Hopefully get a reasonable score at the end. Cheers, and thanks again. Mal.

Keep the ammeter at the top end of the green when pulling away and you won't get slippage. This scenario has a 19 min. timing to Lockerbie, which is spot on for real life, but top speed is only 92.6 mph on the flat, which is low and makes things more difficult than they should be.
Good luck.

All is good. Still need more practice. Standard of driving will improve. Cheers Mal.

If you click the academy tab then the tutorial tab there are two tutorials for driving the Class 86.

Great loco once you know how to drive it/master it. Keep at it.

Thanks for your input. Will try the Academy Tutorials. Cheers Mal.

This scenario is OK, but the 86 is a poor representation of the type. It's too slow and doesn't have neutral section activity. This means that in the first part to Lockerbie, there is nothing to do for about 15 minutes. It's too slow to exceed the speed limits and neutral sections are breezed through.
Go for something with the 87. It's much more realistic.

IIRC WCML Shap is the only route with working neutral sections.
