Please be aware that Catan does not contain an online multiplayer. If you want to play online with your friends please use playcatan.com. If you want to practice for the next board game night by yourself or play with friends on one device this is the right game for you.
To keep the community clearly organized we merged your feedback on the online multiplayer here.

dieses Catan-Spiel verfügt leider nicht über einen Online-Multiplayer. Ihr habt auf playcatan.com die Möglichkeit, online zu spielen. Wenn ihr für den nächsten Spieleabend trainieren oder mit Freunden und Familie an einem PC spielen möchtet, wird euch das Spiel aber sicher gefallen.

Single player only?

Seriously, this is single player only? Too bad... I was about to buy this game since I loved the old Windows 98 version already. But not having the chance to play with my friends completely spoils it for me.

why no online multiplayer?

Really. All these classic board games like Risk, Game of Life and now Catan get new computer adaptions, but no online or even LAN multiplayer. Why? I live on my own for about 3 years by now and I really would like to play some of these great games with my parents and siblings ...
Please add in online mulitplayer!

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, again? Come on! Those boardgames are fun because you play them with others, not on your own!

Over here, in Germany, we call those boardgames "Gesellschaftsspiele", which basically translates to something like "Social Games" - because you play them in company of friends or family rather than on your own.

THAT is the strong point of boardgames like Catan, Monopoly, Risk and the likes - being able to sit down and play with people you like. Adapting them with only Singleplayer in mind is really, really sad and wasteful. Heck, I have yet to see proper, not cheating AI in boardgame adaptions.

If this had Multiplayer, I'd probably have bought it right away, just to be able to play with friends again, even if life's keeping us from getting together to play sitting around a table. But like this? No, sorry, this is a huge turnoff.

Ok, but hot seat is just for the special case that your co-players physically sit next to you. However, my friends are spread all over the country, so this is simply useless for me. I'd rather play the old game I have in a virtual machine. ;-)

I totally agree with you DarkChaplain. I won't buy a social game without being able to play it with others. What a waste.

According to the description it has 'local hot-seat multiplayer mode'. But the single player tag without a multiplayer tag was also the first thing I noticed yeah.

Yeah, it might very well have Hotseat Multiplayer, but is that really worth anything at all? I mean, I'd rather take out the boxed boardgame and swallow the bit of preparation instead of sitting cramped in front of the PC, handing the mouse back and forth.

Of course, it might be enough for people who never played it before, or don't own a copy of the boardgame, but those who do and seek to have a PC copy to play with friends or family who cannot come over to play? Those don't really get anything out of this.

Also, if you have all the people you want to play with right at your house for hot-seat... Why not just take out the boardgame itself?

How is trading in hot seat supposed to work without constantly having to show all your cards ... espescially the developement cards ... really not practical

Couldnt agree more ! I was gonna buy this until i noticed that it only had local multiplayer... I would rather buy and play the boardgame...

Nearly bought this, then I realised it was single player only. Useless.
