Eggplant Monster
With the recent release of the texture extractor I came across this file and it has brought up the question of whether the Eggplant item is as useless as it originally seemed or is this just an unused enemy that was originally planned to be summoned via the Eggplant and the item was left in as an easter egg.

Anyway here it is, anyone got any thoughts: http://i.imgur.com/HyHC8pj.png

Holy mother of god, is tha real? Can't believe such a thing exists, especially after months of discussions about eggplant in XBLA version.

Could this be new to the PC version?

Derek Yu has stated that not every secret has been discovered ,yet.

Wasn't there something about placing a Mystery Box onto an altar to get an eggplant?

Yeah, placing a mystery box on a kali altar will get you the eggplant, nobody knows what the eggplant does yet.

Might explain the "A01-4_egg" and "ultraegg" music in the folders. They play sometimes. They sound like fairly eerie 8-bit soundtracks. I guess that means you can do something triggering their spawn when one plays.

Man I thought this was left in Kid Icurus.

This is amazing. Makes you wonder about the things we have yet to discover.

Damn... Okay guys we have investigating to do. What if there's some obscure wat to activate the eggplant? Like feeding it to the crystal monkey? Or throwing it in Olmec's lava? Or placing it down in hell?
Phoust 12 Aug, 2013 @ 1:25pm
I wonder if anyone has tried feeding the eggplant to the golden/crystal monkey...

I wouldn't be surprised if it had something to do with putting it in water. Maybe if you leave it in a pool of water it grows into a miniboss that you fight on a later floor? Perhaps on a haunted stage if regular jungle level water does nothing? Maybe even stomach acid on the Worm stage?

Obviously there must be some catalyst for transformation to occur.

Perhaps. Seems like someone would have tried that already, but I was thinking the same thing. Maybe take it to the top of the Mothership or somwhere in the Haunted Castle...

I really want to figure this thing out!

Water / Acid have been tried by people on the Mossmouth forums, along with a lot of other ideas (see http://mossmouth.com/forums/index.php?topic=2806.0). The plasma cannon in the Mothership rests on a unique receptacle, so I tried to put it there but it had no effect.

When you get the eggplant, the music changes to ultraegg.ogg (you can check the music files in the game folder). There are 4 other music tracks named A01_egg.ogg, A02_egg.ogg, etc... that play very rarely during the 4 first areas (never in Hell or in special zones though).

I never had the chance to visit a level that had such music with the eggplant, but that's what I'd like to try the most. It's extremely RNG-dependant though (not only do you need a mystery box with an altar on the same level, but the special music has to play too), so I'll wait until the occasion comes naturally.

Hmm, didn't realize the special music had "egg" in the title. That's very interesting.

If anyone has some interesting ideas i'd be willing to test them out. I'd like to attribute my own theory's but im sort of an idiot and i can only think of really obvious things that were already tested.
