Can no longer start game on linux
Have been playing on arch linux for 20 hours with no problems. Tried to play today, and the logo flashes on screen, then a white loading bar along the bottom edge, which stops...
Then nothing.
terminal says malloc_consolidate(): invalid chunk size
Cannot close game, cannot close steam.
I have reinstalled steam, dying light, verified files, full system upgrade, multiple reboots... nothing has worked. I've now spent 3 hours and got nowhere, meanwhile my friend wasted an evening waiting for me.

Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations/fixes?

Been trying to resolve this for a while and found the forum post Dying Light - FMOD: Audio crash[forum.manjaro.org] on Manjaro forums.

For me on Gentoo, reverting from alsa-lib-1.2.2 to alsa-lib-1.2.1.2 allowed me to start the game.

There hasn't been any updates to Dying Lights libfmodex64.so since 2018 (and I assume nothing else directly accesses ALSA in DyingLight binaries) so must be some compatibility issue but nothing obvious in ALSA changelog that might cause it. Wonder if there's a newer libfmodex64.so available.

EDIT: Looks to be ALSA bug 27[github.com] fixed by commit https://git.alsa-project.org/?p=alsa-lib.git;a=commit;h=27c7927842a691ef13724cd16fb26264680c6aa2. So should be fixed in ALSA 1.2.2.1 or 1.2.3 whenever released.

This is exactly why Valve came up with the solution.
We can partially thank Canonical for being their usual morons (see the recent Ubuntu 32-bit support fiasco) which expedited the emergence of a distro-agnostic long term solution.

Btw, -nologos is used to skip the intro movie. Makes the game load almost instantly with the added side effect that it can also solve white loading bar hangs and other startup issues or crashes. Highly recommended!
