Game crashes before start

I just bought this one in package deal, but it crashes each time I hit "Play" from the key page. I've tried reinstalling and running as administrator, but it continues crashing. Any help is appreciated.

IMO the game is broken since the last update. I am in a similar "boat" to you. I could not start the game without getting the "oops" crash. I reinstalled the game and it worked for a little while, but since then the game has crashed constantly in certain areas. Either raise a ticket with Ubisoft support, or get Legend of Grimrock and play that in the meantime. I am playing that game now until the issues have been sorted out. My game was stable until the last update. Very disappointing. Sorry I cannot help you further.,

I've reinstalled and double checked all of my drivers. My computer meets the specs OK, but it still crashes right after that key screen. I submitted a report with Ubisoft, attaching the crash files and msinfo32, but haven't heard back from them. This game was the main reason I bought the package. Should I demand a refund or would Steam support be a better option than Ubisoft?

Well, the first thing the game runs is the UPlay client. Have you tried running the client by itself without Steam?

Next the game does start is a video.
You wouldn't happen to have the BINK-player installed on your system by any chance? So that the game might accidentaly load the wrong bink2w32.dll?

To see if the video causes the issue you may want to go to "Steam\steamapps\common\Might & Magic X - Legacy\Might and Magic X Legacy_Data\StreamingAssets\Videos" and rename all the "*.bk2" files. If that starts the game, then BINK is the cause and you might want to get a different version of the DLL or just install the BINK standalone player and watch the video outside the game.

Also I assume you have an NVIDIA-card? I heard people suggesting that folks using NVIDIA-cards much more often reported issues with performance and running the game than people having ATI-cards. Perhaps updating the drivers might help.

Unfortunately this is about all that I can think of right now.

Thanks for the replies. I had to open a uplay/ubisoft account to submit my petition. I tried manually downloading the client and everything seems to work. Where I wasn't able to get past the key page through steam alone, I was able to enter *one* of the keys (entering the other tells me I already own the game) there, but when I try to launch it with uplay, it brings me back to steam and that key page. I hit play from there and crash immediately.

I don't have a bink player installed. I tried renaming the videos, just in case, but still crash. I changed them back.

I don't have a nvidia card, but checking my drivers was one of the first things I made sure of. I have an ATI Radeon HD 5450. Nothing spectacular, but I haven't run into problems with any other game.

Ehrm... so that sounds more like a problem with the key.

Here is how it "should" work: you install the game via Steam. Pushing "Play" opens the UPlay client. It will NOT ask you for the game key yet. Instead it will force you to open a UPlay account using the client. Therefore you have to "register" with UPlay and choose a username and password. Once you done that you get to the part where you can use the game code.

Carefull! Your game will be permanently tied to that UPlay account. If you lose access to it, you can no longer run the game!

Next: you may need to activate the game in your UPlay client (that is what the code is for). Then you can push "play" in UPlay and it should start the game.

Once you have completed all these steps the game will run directly from the Steam client, when you hit "play".

So this is how it "should" work. Is there a chance you may have skipped on of these steps?

Hello again. Not sure how to take and post screen shots, so I'll try again to describe exactly what is happening.

I install the game. From my library, I select Might and Magic X and hit Play from that page. That opens a Might and Magic X - Legacy CD Key window that has two keys (one Legacy Game Key and one Legacy Deluxe Game Key). From this window, I hit Play and immediately crash.

The crash window says, "The game crashed. The crash report folder named "2014-02-27-175600" next to game executable. It would be great if you'd send it to the developer of the game!" The number is date and time related.

One config file in folder reads:

Next, there's a crash.dmp file. I'm unsure what is in that one.

Finally, a text error file that is too long to copy/paste here.

Anyhow, I've also tried launching the game from Uplay client. I hit Play on the Might and Magic X - Legacy page there and it directs me back to Steam and the Key window. Play from there also crashes and produces the same kind of crash files.

The only key I've activated through Uplay was the normal game key, not the deluxe. When I've tried to enter deluxe key, it tells me that I already own the game. My guess is that the keys are tied together.

Hmm. I double checked the system requirements and it says it requires a sound card. This is the first time I've run into this in any game. Does it seriously require that you play with sound on?
