Well in my case, relics were useless because either my classes were not the right ones to use them or I had to spend all skill points to one skill which I didn't like. Even if you are able to use them, you don't need them at level three anyway, the low level items you get are enough. All they do is lowering the difficulty with no reason so what's the point anyway?
All I am saying is you can enjoy the game perfectly without them, in fact they are worse than useless because they occupied space in my inventory and I never used some of them :)
But yes, it's awful to get anything in-game not for playing well, but for paying real money to devs. Kind of like cheating. Thing is, that I wanted to replay at the higher difficulty, but could use those relics to make it bit less brutal... Although some ot them are bit useless, like IIRC that crag hack's axe needs axe and two hand skills, and it's not very easy to come up with a good character having both and being able to equip it, as the few classes which can achieve GM level of both have some other weapon skill as a default one, which you can't turn off... technically only slightly wasteful, but my OCD hates it anyhow.
For me this game is definitely in the top3 of the whole series, MM3: Isles of Terra being #1, and I find it sad that when MMX will be as old as MM3, it might be entirely impossible to play it at all because of all this DRM sh*tfuc*ery, as ubisoft will be (hopefully) bankrupt by then and their servers will be down.
Fundamentally you are not wrong but all this hate for a few relics?!
You should be thankfull you can still play the game at all.
You can avoid deluxe version next time just to be on the safe side or even better avoid Ubi products entirely.
That day came about three weeks ago when I re-installed it from Steam after a big hardware upgrade and a completely fresh installation of Windows 10. While the game is launched from Steam, the Ubisoft Connect software still launched and I had to log into that as well.
Lo and behold, I noticed, once I created my new party, I had those four relics. It was a surprise to me, but I immediately sold one of them (the axe) because I knew none of my characters would ever max out axe and two-handed.
The point is that the problem isn't that the Ubisoft servers are offline, I think the original poster is simply dealing with the (annoying) possible fact that those relics ONLY show up for the first characters you create since the relics were introduced to the game.
Maybe there's a way to go back to one of the saved games and edit the party so that you still have access to those relics?
Also, remember, those ones aren't the only relics in the game. In fact, they're not necessarily the 'best' ones. For example, one relic requires completion of a somewhat elaborate quest. You may even eventually want to sell the relics you've been using for the beginning two acts of the game because your characters outgrow them.
Place the blame where it's due: on the likelihood this was a programming oversight or just simply bad judgment by the programmers rather than a non-existent technical issue with the servers.
It will be my first refund ever asked for a steam game (despite having bought quite a few games that I ended up not liking and playing only a couple hours or less). I really didn"t expect my first refund to be for this great game, but this is a totally inacceptable behaviour from ubisoft.
Otherwise next time they might as well remove the whole extension, why not.. anyway not that many players play through it more than once. Why not remove the easter egg dungeon as well in addition to the meow one, and remove these complicated quests for archmage/runleord etc.. to get a product more in line with ubisoft's usual empty games.
Good luck refunding, let us know if you get one
Now this is indeed annoying, not some lost relics
