DYNASTY WARRIORS: ORIGINS

Challenges in Ultimate Warrior Difficulty. Let's not do that.
Can we start a petition or something to beg Koei-Tecmo to make these available for Hero mode? I can feel the aneurysm in my brain getting worse each time I try and attempt one of these. It's too much. I'd feel less stressed trying to climb the ranks in Tekken 8.

I mean, I already did it with a grade 6 weapon no less. Was a fun challenge.
video or it didn't happen

I did something very similar. Went to him as pretty much the first thing I did post-game. 21 ranks below recommended and a Rank 6 weapon. A video for you: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2360142400?t=26m31s

Took about an hour and a half of attempts over two sessions. 13'30"77 of game time for the fight. Should be clear from that that you don't have to be perfect or even relatively good to get it done. The mission starts at 7:20 but 26:31 is the start of the winning attempt.

A note about the halberd: I unlocked it by just buying one after I finished the game. Not sure on what the exact requirements are for it to be purchasable (if there are any other than being in post-game). Don't need to touch ultimate at all to unlock it, as far as I can tell. I was just suggesting that it would be a cool reward if, in first playthrough, you could get it by beating Lu Bu at Hu Lao.

I love that the challenges can only be done in ultimate difficulty; it feels more rewarding. You just gotta get good at parrying and evading; once you master those, it becomes a lot easier. Also spoiler alert you get Lu Bu's best weapon (Rampaging Luan) by defeating him at HuLao Gate on ultimate difficulty; the movesets are really good, and the weapon is a grade 8.

You are on PC, just use a trainer if you really can't be bothered.

The ultimate challenges, like another person said, exist to give you something to do/work towards in NG+. And the rewards can be wildly powerful (overly so in a standard first playthrough). So I'd rather they didn't get moved to Hero and first playthrough.

That said, there probably should be rewards for meeting those challenges on earlier difficulties. I've seen a lot of people express disappointment at not getting anything significant from repelling Lu Bu at Hu Lao Gate and that's absolutely fair. That and other similar challenges could stand to give smaller rewards on a first playthrough or Hero mode. Like that one, in particular, could unlock the halberd class of weapon early with a standard baby halberd.. That kind of thing would be a strong and significant reward without being too strong, I'd think.

Son, for beating Lu Bu without using ANY healing items on Ultimate Warrior, I should get a sex scene with Diao Chan. Not a damned horse. Doing challenges on the highest difficulty shouldn't comprise THE ENTIRE POST-GAME's worth of content. The fact that I have to do them to even unlock the Halberd class and all of the unique horses alone is bad enough. I have tried beating some of these challenges 10 levels above the recommended, and they are still impossible. Some of them are doable yes, but many of them were just not playtested. Period.

I laughed way too hard at Diao Chan, thanks for making my day
Still yet to find any I couldn't beat in a couple tries aside from dueling Lu Bu with no healing. Most I beat pretty easily on first try and most of the rest I beat on second try since you know what to expect. Once you've got a grade 8 weapon it's really not that bad. The only one that felt fairly frustrating was the one where you have to defend a castle and keep it's gates each above 60%. Beating that was a puzzle. I'm probably through like 1/4th of the total challenges. Snagged everything in shu route that was either guards, a luan weapon, red hare, or battle arts.

Just do one of the first chapter missions to get a 600atk weapon. Equip both defense charms. Use the grind mission under the mission tab not the STORY tab to get to max lvl on all weapons in a couple of minutes.

You cant die anymore and kill everything fast. You have so much defense that even the ultimate difficulty becomes a joke and you cant die because of the perk in the tree which lets you heal up again after getting in the reds back to yellow.

That way you dont need to grind to get weapons to high atk because the sword is super easy to get with 600base atk at grade8.

What is the grind mission out of curiosity? I have been grinding weapon levels on Subjugation of Yuan Shu, but if there is something faster Id love to know!

Went straight into a from the start NG+ after getting Red Hare and the one that gave me the hardest time so far was Battle of Wan Castle in Chapter 1. Getting that damn ram to the gate within 5 minutes was painful. There was one run where it was on time to open the door and it just stopped and waited until it was out of time without any enemy remotely near it. Took me nearly as long as the Red Hare fight. A Grade 8 probably would've helped. And the Luan Sword is relatively easy to get.

Spear Luan is also very easy to get. You just go straight to the middle of that map and find the guy hiding and beat him before 3 minutes. Just one officer is all you gotta take down. The rest of the mission is also pretty easy. And honestly, halberd luan is not that bad. You have all the time in the world to beat Lu Bu and he's much easier than the xiapi battle. You have also have effectively invincible ally officers to kinda help. Just gotta make sure to leave the Lu Bu battle to go shave Yuan Shao briefly and then return to the Lu Bu fight.

Halberd is pretty godly so getting the strongest one makes a lot of missions much easier. If you also maxed Lu Bu's bond so that valiant steed blitz appears in the shop that art is insane. You can practically spam it to obliterate large forces and officer clumps. It costs 7 (after maxing it) but you will down like 2-4 officers to assault which regens most of that. You can also win any duel instantly by using that art. It straight up one shots them all.

If you end a playthrough, you normally can access halberd @ weapon's merchant.

Ultimate is ok, the challenges being on ultimate however are abit of a grind fest.
I have red hare and consider myself to be pretty good but my brain hurts.

Some of them are straight BS to do. I think it was level 84 with a tier 8 weapon and still couldn't complete the one mission where you have to destroy 3 armies in a certain timeframe
Well, I finally found a really hard one. Chibi on Wu side is insanely hard. Took me hours to finally get it after being literal seconds too late with a lot of strategies. What finally worked is killing the 2 officers before zhang jiao, then running to fight the two officers west of there fighting an allied officer. Han Dong will get defeated around here. Run to Li Dian and duel him and kill the normal general near there, fight zhang jiao a bit and then go save the people to the south and kill every general (including zhang jiao that should wander into the fight half way through) except Yu Jin in that area (you don't need to leave him alive or anything, he just isn't necessary to kill IIRC). That should be exactly enough buffer for the main camp with liu bei and sun quan to just barely survive long enough.

Then go defeat huang gai using halberd musou rage (this ♥♥♥♥ is broken, just mash light attack and use heavy to gap close. Finish with valiant steed blitz right before it runs out).

Then really quickly run all the way to the altar and save zhuge liang who should be seconds from death if you do it fast enough. Stand right by the altar so you can light it instantly when it's ready and kill everyone that approaches it. At this time you will be getting messages that liu bei is about to die but you should have just enough time to light the altar which should allow them to survive without your intervention.

It's crazy how the addition of having to waste a minute to kill huang gai makes the mission go from fairly difficult but nothing crazy to complete nightmare. I did this at level 87 with halberd luan. Also used a stamina potion to be able to murder the first group with ability spam.

I think it might be possible to optimize by waiting to duel li dian until zhang jiao is nearby so you get the courage down from winning the duel on him to kill him faster. I did that in some of the other routes I tried but this time I was basically trying to maximize ally health on the right side so they could serve as enough of a buffer to protect HQ.

Ugh and I still need to win from shu side to get hex mark although that mission seems much easier (I finished with like 10+ allies left this time).

The hardest challenge so far for me outside of Lu Bu Red Hare is probably Guan Yu's crescent blade (kill him before he retreats back into Xiapi).
The strat that got me that one is all your allies dying except Cao Cao and you kill everyone else except Guan Yu, he just sits infront. This stops allies entering Xiapi and Guan Yu retreating back into the castle. All he did was meet Liu Bei and Zhang Fei when I went to defend Cao Cao from them.

Edit: Nearly finished Cao Cao's storyline with challenges, next is probably Wu and then Shu
