At least its still available but thats really scummy, the new version is a bastardization and charging people more for a very crucial part of gaming history is wrong. The original runs perfectly on modern pcs with no mods needed the "remaster" should never have been made. Its not our fault you're not recouping costs on a product that serves no purpose.

So:
If you own the 1999 release (now £6.99), congrats, enjoy and keep it.
If you _don't_ own the 1999 release and want it, get it now or you won't be able to after the 10th October 2025 unless you buy the 'remastered' 2025 version (now at the ludicrous price of £23.99) which will (super graciously /s) include it with it?

The remaster is arguably a much better experience but you can have almost all of it with (community) mods on the original: and there's the rub and the reason for the delisting tactic becomes clear.

Not a good look at any rate.

The remaster is a worse experience, it just implements a fan visual mod and a fan "rebalance" mod. Both of which are just downgrades. The visuals of the game are an art that should be preserved and heralded as milestone of gaming. The new visuals aren't impressive and just destroy the original art style adding details where they shouldn't be. You're not supposed to see veins running along the hybrids you're supposed to let your brain fill in the blanks on the more ambiguous visuals to give the atmosphere its uncomfortable feeling.

scammers. you could give remaster for who already have original game. Very D move from corporations
The truth is, ND have put themselves into yet another bad position. The SS2 remastered version was years late after being promised to be coming 'free for backers of the SS1 remake'. The fact that it wasn't going to cost anything extra helped soften the blow for how long both it and the SS1 remake were taking, replete with sporadic promises that it was 'almost finished'. Then they went even further and made it free for anyone preordering the SS1 remake fullstop.

In effect, they made the SS2 'anniversary remaster' already free from the start for anyone who was _already_ interested in the franchise or may have been going to buy it anyway. Someone's not happy with the profit margins from that one.

Now they're trying to entice buyers who are new to the franchise while selling one version at less than 1/3 of what they're asking for (having to compete with the original) but they have the power to axe. So you can see why they're doing this. And yes it's scummy and yes it shouldn't be forgotten, but it's not the first questionable thing involving Nightdive and their treatment of the franchise. Honestly, some execs would have customers be grateful we even get to keep what we paid for.

meh, you should have mentioned the lack (as is the custom in all Nightdive remasters) of original DirectSound3D spatial audio,
rather than singing another ode to poor graphics from ~1997-00

Yuck, why is it so hard for game companies to use any of their brain power?
This is just shameful.

Sounds like NIghtdive is turning into yet another Beamdog - force new players on needless, overpriced version of the game, which does stuff, which is already done in the original game by mods.

If I remember correctly Nightdive doesn't own rights to SS, if you look at the email for contacts it's Atari
