Game doesn't count playtime or show up as in-game anymore

Since the update that added the launcher the game doesn't register as being played, probably because as far as Steam is concerned the game is closed when the launcher is closed.
As a side effect this also makes the Steam overlay impossible to use with the game, even after changing the dosbox .ini file (this made it work before).
