That choice has been explained in-game.
So, you mean that this name suffix (-din) is not appropriate for a person who is supposed to be a nobleman/high-class/prince?
im saying that the name typ:
Lodin,Flodin,Ledin,Lundin, etc is a common Swedish name but it was created in the 1600 during the 30-year war, so they probably took a scandinavian name and thought it had something to do with vikings as well.
And no, it wasnt noble- it was a warrior/soldier name. A name tied into a village that was enlisted for war. ofc you could also be the leader in that village and get the name... but that would be just for a big rich farmer.
Oh, ok, I now see your point. Well, some names where just picked for their sonority! For example, Alette and Rook have nothing to do with vikings either. It's not like they wanted to do a historic game; they just drew some inspiration from the viking/scandinavian culture.
I just started the game and saw a woman named "Oddleif" a prince "Ledin" and my first reaction was, oh boy... these guys has just taken random scandinavian names :O
im def buying Banner saga 2 and 3 and I, like a lot , are very appreciated of what they have done - especially for people like me who really like srpg and viking culture.
So yes, I was wrong - even vikings used the form. I apologize.
Firstly: they gave her a male's name because they thought/wanted the baby to be a boy. Sort of like people giving their pets the wrong gendered name because they didn't properly identify them. Though there are a few people who have that had it. Rare? Sure. But it's difficult.
As for the anachronistic naming.. it's a fantasy game set in a fantasy universe based loosely on Nordic culture. They don't have to follow the conventions of history or real life when there's no major reasons why those would have followed it as well. Especially since from what little we know of the setting it looks like the place was significantly less tribal than the average Medieval Scandinavian political scene, and there weren't significant amounts of foreign locals or traders to mingle with during the human and varl colonizations.
And if you look at the units themselves, there's a lot of anachronism. Huscarl style shield-n-small axe style fighters like those from the Dark Ages fight alongside long/composite bowmen(/women) like those deployed centuries later. And this is before I even talk about the sword/bow combos...
Why would we scrutinize the naming and not those?
and was as well in old norse. Oddleifr was the male version but in recent scandinavian languages oddleifr became oddleif as they lost cases in their language. While in icelandic it was kept. So all the leif ending names are female while leifur ending names are male.
Here is a website about names in nordic countries.

who gives a ♥♥♥♥ about your grandmas name? had nothing what I wrote about.
and yes, maybe your mormor" is an immigrant, so how does that change anything?
jesus christ.
yes, I actually thought this game was based on real events.
you feel happy now wackjob? If rise of the argonauts had characters named Larry,Sean and lindsey- I would also say something and you would probably go"well its a fantasy game bla bla bla" - you dont get it, and you never will. So calm down.
