been playing all day, now i can't get the game to start
i intended to restart my game, i forget why, and now the game won't start. supposedly the launcher is running, but i don't see it anywhere except the task manager. it wasn't glitching or anything when i closed out, and i did validate files. i'm very confused. as far as i know, nothing changed, yet it suddenly won't play.

Have you tried restarting computer and loading a previous save first?

So actually shut computer down ... wait 5 minutes before trying to load a previous save that you know loaded easily before.

So trying to load a save that was safe first, before trying the current save.

I have had this problem on multiple computers including a laptop, my best advice is to open task manager and end the process for steam and then open it back up and log back in. Alternatively, I found this issue happening more frequently when I opened multiplayer servers and if that is something you happen to be doing try find PE_client or PE_server and ending process, this should instantly close the game and sync the contents at which point you could restart the game without restarting steam

tried ending the task and restarting the game again but always got the same result so wound up restarting my whole computer, which worked.

Good to hear that worked!
Remember that anytime you have an issue ... with most games.
Restarting the computer is always a first step to getting a fix.

i'm hesitant to restart (1 cuz i always have a million tabs open) cuz recently my pc's been acting up, always bluescreens when i restart it, and then i have to shut it down and start it up again manually cuz it just clicks at me.

Have this issue as well, got a notification of some kind of update ?

Don't see anything on the Store page about recent updates.

@Godith Shadowind if you have a million tabs open each one is using a certain amount of memory possibly 100- 200k so mutilply that with the amount of tabs will tell you how much memory you have left ... probably nothing even if you've got 16Gb.

So many programs that your computer runs only update when you start your computer ... so in your case they never do. Also a load of games need as much memory as possible to run. so any games you have difficulty with that is probably the reason.

I restart my computer at least each day and if a tab is interesting, I book mark it and get back there with a single click. once I've found it in my long list of book marks.

Anyway good luck whatever you do. meant as helpful tips
