Do you play 3 before 4?

I've had these games for a while now and only just started playing them and 3 is more of a linear game whereas this is more open tempting me to play 4. Do you have to play them in order?

You sould. 4 is a continuation from 3. Also its not as open as you might think. Its still very liniar but you do get to move around the open world rather than the map thing 3s got.
