Why is this one so cheap?
I am used to paying $60-$70 for Yakuka/LAD games. Strange Sega is only charging $50.
Is this one supposed to be an appetizer for the $70 behemoth: Infinite Wealth!?

it's a relatively smaller game story side

only has sotenbori and the castle as freeroam maps (ijincho being story only)

BUT it's pretty worth it for insane arena with 40 playable characters and a FREE yakuza 8 special trial

So that you can save some money for Infinite Wealth Ultimate Edition or whatnot.

What is this yak 8 trial you're speaking of?

After beating Gaiden's main story you unlock a Demo for 8, with a exclusive set piece that wont be in the actual game. Yakuza 6 had the same thing, with a 45 minute story line, levels and bosses exclusive to the demo. 6's demo was included with the og copy with Kiwami 1.
