Game crashes after recent Steam upgrade

My game was working fine and I changed nothing. Then my Steam client upgraded and forced its restart. I did that. Then, when I tried to start the game the schick.exe crashes everytime (tried compatibility mode, restarting of Steam, rebooting of my computer and validating and then also reinstalling of the game). All to no avail. I keep on getting the error:

It was Steam. A new Steam update today obviously fixed this.
