Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime library- Runtime error
I'm having problems with starting my eu4. While trying to launch the game it just won't begin and a pop-up window appears which says:

"Runtime Error!

Program: D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Europa Universalis IV\eu4.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

I have tried reinstalling the game and verifying the game, aswell as downloading the latest Microsoft Visual C++ and directX updates to make things work and yet they haven't.

I'm in desperate need of help and I would be very grateful if someone could help with this so that I can play eu4 :)

It's not clear to me if the game used to work on this machine and stopped, or has never worked on it.

USED TO WORK:
Do a full clean re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "delete local content" in Steam-EU4
- manually delete all files and folders left under Steam/EU4 AND Documents/Paradox/EU4
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.

- start the game with no mods active and test

NEVER WORKED:
installing ALL of these Microsoft modules:

First: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8328

Then: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

(If that doesn't do anything then http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 )

Then: visit the Windows Update site and allow it to apply all .NET updates/patches it wants to, for all .NET versions.


IF NEITHER HELPS:
post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the end of the "Sound devices" section for brevity) and your Documents/EU4/settings.txt. Zip up your whole Documents/Paradox/EU4/logs/ directory and attach or link that here too please.
I much appreciate your advice, however the two alternatives at the top do not work for me.

Since I'm not that good with computers, could you please explain your last advice a bit more precise? The one with dxdiag.txt thing :P I'd like to try it but I do not quite umderstand how I am supposed to do xD

It would still be good to know if the game used to work on this machine and stopped, or has never worked on it.

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then post the first part of that file (from the top down to include "Sound Devices" only) here.

Please post your Documents/EU4/settings.txt. From your Documents/Paradox/EU4/logs/ directory, post system.log .

That dxdiag.txt looks fine.

Please post your Documents/EU4/settings.txt. From your Documents/Paradox/EU4/logs/ directory, post system.log .
Sorry that I've forgot to mention it. Yes it has worked on this machine. The game has worked for a year and just stopped working last week when the error message first popped up.

I can not find anything when i search for Documents/EU4/settings. It doesn't appear to exist anywhere in my computer :/

Click on the Start Button and then Documents. Do you see a folder "Paradox Interactive"? If so go into there and you'll see one EU4.

If there is no "Paradox Interactive" then you must have uninstalled the game and deleted it, after last playing? Or done a Windows re-install meantime?
Luckily everything has been solved. The documents with the paradox interactive was deleted and I've since recreated them and that solved all problems :)

The game works again! :)

I have same problem with "Tec-9 med keff <3". When I chose Local save before starting
the game I was in the game for 10 mins before it is shut down without sending any error message. When I chose Cloud, It gives this Runtime Error same as "Tec-9 med keff <3". Also I cannot see the saved file when i restart the game in Local but it seems at Documents/EU4.

My Windows is reinstalled, before that I was playing Eu4 on this computer. Can you help me please? I am also adding Documents/EU4/settings.txt and system.log.
