Europa Universalis IV launch problem
Hello to all

Since this evening, I have a problem when I want to launch EU IV

When I click on "resume" or "play" in the launcher, it displays a small red triangle that tells me, when I point my mouse on it, "the launch of the game has failed" without further explanation

I have checked the integrity of the game files in steam, which tells me that everything is ok, but it doesn't change anything to the problem

Would any of you know how to fix the problem, or am I doomed to uninstall and reinstall the game, hoping that afterwards everything will work?

I'm sorry if my English is far from perfect, but as I'm terrible in this language, I've used a translation software, in which, by the way, I would also translate your answers

Thanks in advance

I, too, today after the update, stopped working the game. Nothing helps. Tried the tips that were given in this discussion.
Do you also get the "VCRUNTIME140_1.dll" message or does something else happen when you start eu4.exe directly?
No, just a window with a bug report.

In that case does it help if you disable all mods? Many gui mods are incompatible with 1.31.6 and have to be updated

Yes ... It's because of the Russian translation mod... The developer is doing everything so that I still went to the torrent version of the game ... I'm incredibly angry.
Thanks for the help.
Had the same crash to reporter. Worked fine earlier today. Did two things. Disabled one out of date mod (great monuments) AND had to launch as play and not resume and re-download subscribed DLC. Closed game and loaded again. Now it works.

Why are you angry if the mod developer is trying everything to update the mod? And you don't need to resort to illegal ways to get the game. You can just downgrade to an older version in the betas section of the eu4 properties in the steam library

For everybody who gets the message about "VCRUNTIME140_1.dll", please try to (re-)install the microsoft visual c++ redistributables. You can get the 2019 version from this link[support.microsoft.com]. There is both a 32bit version(x86) and a 64bit version(x64). Current eu4 versions only need the 64bit version. Does this help?

For people with other errors, please try starting from eu4.exe and report back what happens

This actually worked for me. Thank you very much grotaclas for all your help
I get teh VCRUNTIME =140_1.dll was not found message, did you guys figure out how to fix this, I tried reading back but lots of confusing talk on the chat :)

Did you already try my suggestion from this comment?
yeah tried it, I have also tried reinstalling the game and currently redoing it, Iv deleted all my save games and mods (little bit of ouch was on a cool campaign) but didn't help, I did just read that it could be a launcher issue with the update and even when you reinstall game you need to uninstall the launcher and have that reinstall upon update. someone suggested on another post that it could be an issue with running the launcher in admin mode or maybe anti virus having a barny with the launcher files so tried doing that before reinstalling the game through steam again, still no luck so far though
I have a similar issue. Initially my game loaded up, up to the main menu. And then when the UI would have to appear it crashes.

I have reinstalled the game, updated my drivers, updates Microsoft Visual C++, and have deleted my documents folder, and disables mods (Stellar font and better looking maps). Now reinstalling again.

After having updated the Visual C++, i actually couldn't start the game via the launcher anymore ( so booted it up via the .exe ) - same issue.
same exact problem, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tried everything, even disabled the anti-virus. at first I thought it was a mod problem, so I disabled all of them even deleted some of them, didn't fix it. set the "run this program as an administrator" in the compatibility tab for the eu4.exe and tried starting the game from it, VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found was the message it gave me I also verified the integrity of the game cache still not ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ working, it's been like this for 2 days...

I'm angry because the developer did not take care of the Russian-speaking community, but Russian-speaking enthusiasts themselves, and free of charge for Paradox Studio, localized the game. But instead of respecting that and taking into account the interests of the Russian-speaking community, and check before the release if the only available mod for localization in Russian works, just uploaded an update that broke this mod. If Paradox Studio released an official mod with the Russian language, I would have bought it for sure.
I can easily download the torrent version of the game, which from the start is the Russian language, and not make my life harder. But I bought the official version as a sign of respect for Paradox Studio, downloaded the available Russian language mod, ONLY WHY I would express my appreciation. And that's the kind of feedback I got.

No, but it's not specific to Russian speakers

Their updates screw up the game for everyone

I'm French, for example
Same here I tried everything on the internet no result so far. I think it happend because of update since it suddenly begin for too many ppl. Hope they solve this !!!
Well, I asked paradox customer service directly about the problem.

Here is their answer

"Thank you for writing. We have seen this error and let me assist you with this.

In the game launcher please set the Display mode to Borderless. THEN go here:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads
And run the x86 and x64 installers there.

IF that doesn't help, please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-EU4
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/EU4 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add EU4.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam EU4 or Documents EU4 locations, before installing again.

Also if you have installed RivaTuner, RadeonPro, or a gaming VPN app called Evolve, or the MSI Gaming App, or Duet, disable it as it clashes with this game.

IF NEITHER OF THAT HELP:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the taskbar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log .

Kind regards,
Saul"
