Chickasaw, how to change from Tribal Government
Im playing as Chickasaw and its 1613(probably way late to change) and having just two diplomats is really hurting. How do i go about changing away from the tribal government? I hope it doesnt require switching to catholic as i am not in a good position to risk slowing down my colonization(damn pope and your treaties)

If you are vanilla, just to get Admin tech 8 and Border a non-primitive nation and click a button in your decision tab.

If you have CoP, complete all of your native reforms, border a non-primtive nation, and click the button in the native council interface.

You'll adopt whatever government type the nation you reformed off of had (usually a Monarchy but sometimes a republic will sneak in or if you reformed off of a CN).

it is difficult, way back when i played Cherokee i had to make alliances with nearby tribes defeating other tribes then defeating the allies because it is easier to occupy a province if the area is already colonized by another tribe. You must then core the provinces and convert culture or vassalize. Also you have to colonize the border zones and only leave one small state for the europeans to to colonize then. Once you level up the main catagories you will be given the option to change govenment type. Then you change it to monarchy. When the europeans are in that one state bordering you eventually you can adopt modernization. You must ally with a strong european power that is nowhere near you to be able to keep foreign troops away and or modernize your army which is difficult because you lose all your original buildings upon upgrading government/ modernizing. It was several years ago that i tryied it out, so i don't know if it is still done the same way.

If you want to reform from native government, the process depends if you have Conquest of Paradise DLC or not:
