Of course you can. Just need to kill the boss twice.

You don't need to kill the boss twice, you can use astetic right away.

But I don't recommend it.

I did this but he only will let me trade for flame weapon/ Chaos blade doesn't even show up in trade.

You can get the Choas Blade around SL 65, using the souls from only killing boss's to keep your SM as low as possible and just run through the levels not killing anything else. +5 it when you get it and then one shot people in the belltower for some quick fun.
