The bosses (no spoilers)
Are somewhat dissapointing (not terrible, but far from the stuff in DS1).
-Many of the aesthetic designs on the bosses look frankly unmemorable and bland since many of them just look like slightly larger normal enemies. No standouts like "a giant wolf with a greatsword" in this game, just a lot more humanoids.
-The attack patterns of the bosses are incredibly predictable and overused, with many bosses actually possessing the same actions as others. Like I said, they seem like slightly larger normal enemies.
-They recycled/reskinned some bosses. Laziness.
-A lot of the bosses in DS2 are gangbang/multiplier bosses. Ornstein and Smough from DS1 were cool because they acted incredibly different from eachother (slow but powerful, weak but nimble) while also having a twist when one of them died. The multiplier bosses in DS2 seemed to have taken a page from the Sanctuary Guardians after you've killed Artorias.
Anyone else a bit dissapointed by the bosses, or am I just a butthurt communist scum?
EDIT: I'm not saying the game is bad, its amazing.

I haven't finished the game yet. But I must agree. As much as I love DS2 so far, the bosses are very disappointing.

Yeah the bosses are a bit disappointing. Several that feel like I fought them in the previous games which made them easier. Others who are only challenging because they threw a bunch of small trash around their feet to make it so you couldn't focus on the boss unless you wanted to be attacked by one of them while you did, one of those in particular is annoying as hell. Some of the crap you have to fight to get to the bosses is actually more challenging than several of the bosses were. I'd die a couple times getting to the boss and then the boss would go down on the first try. It was a little sad.

You'll see when you play the game.

True, they made bosses easier, giving us more quantity than quality. But there is cool concept and designs, and some bosses surely gonna rip faces in ng+. I don't think this is bad (just like any changes in ds2), cos difficulty rise up overall. But if you really think game is easy, you know, there is covenant right for you, and ng+, which's not only rise difficulty, but also adds some interesting stuff that you are not going to see in normal game.

I finally got some considerable time to play on my friends xbox and its kinda true. Only one or two of the bosses that I fought really stood out for me and their difficulty curve was nowhere near as much as DS1.

I Do like the level design though and I feel like Pvp will likely be far more weighty in DS2.

It's funny reading this since I just watched the 2-part IGN "making of" video last night, and some guy at From was talking about how carefully they design the bosses and if they aren't up to scratch they turn them into a regular enemy. I guess he was full of it.

Oh well, quite some of them actually feels like regular enemies, tough one, but still more like just some random dude though. But i want to believe it's ok, at least there won't be the thing when almost everyone goes full havel's to kill the four kings/nito, cos they're somewhat scary to dodge, especially if you are new. Or the bed of chaos: one big facepalm.

Some enemy encounters are harder then bosses. I found the biggest challenge the game presented itself was dealing with rooms full of anywhere from 5-10 mobs at once. And theres even a boss or two that has considerable amount of mobs as apart of the fight.

You kinda have to learn how to "Herd" Mobs and either pick them off in a bottle neck or do considerable splash damage and roll away without getting nicked or surrounded.

The most difficult challenge for me so far was trying to get that lockstone under the bridge before the charriot boss. Fortunately, this challenge does not gain hp or attack power in NG+ :3

The best anti-mob weapon in the game is firestorm. That ♥♥♥♥ wrecks ass.

I also agree with the OP... I'm about 2/3 (?) through the game (got all the required big boss souls) and I'm having a hard time remembering most of the boss creatures I had to fight till here. I do remember that many bosses appear to be equivalents to Dark Souls - there is one which is practically Artorias (from the DS DLC), but without any significant backstory the fight was just "in-out-onwards". I'm seriously wondering if there is any binding context in the story/lore that ties let's say the Charioteer to ummmm... certain spiders, or giants, or...

Well the OP has summarised the "problems" pretty well. Maybe From has focused more on level detail this time, putting in the bosses to allow the player a brief pause rather than an epic struggle to move on? Some levels are really awesome, but others are tedious to the extreme

MILD SPOILER

(a certain level where you might end up breaking 4 or 5 dozen small statues, directly after a level where you had to climb one or two dozen ladders - I was so bored!)

END MILD SPOILER

As much as I enjoy the game so far (mild disappointments aside), I'm NOT looking forward to doing this again. I'd rather run through Blighttown 20 more times.

I really hope that the end game ties things together...
