Steam launches war thunder on 32 bit after the last update
since yesterday when i open the game by steam the game launches without the launcher thats great but in 32 bit mode (it writes war thunder directx11 32 bit in the task bar i have never seen that it was always just straight war thunder) so when i launch the game from the game folders (win64 ---> aces) the game launches like back in the day but without steam and the classic login screen. So i cant open steam with shift+tab anymore. How can i set the steam to launch my game as in the back days. I dont realy notice any fps difference or something between 32 and 64 bit. I have windows 10 pro 64 bit and nearly everything except gpu are the latest products.

interesting... i haven't installed WT on Steam so i can't have a look if there is something like a commandline switch / startup command to run the 64bit client unfortunately =/ would be interesting to see if other players can confirm this though.

one thing you could try is to start the launcher from Steam instead of the game directly.

because the launcher should run the 64bit client by default (if it's supported by the system)

There is an extra layer called a 'thunk'. If you are running a 32-bit program on 64-bit...it thunks up to call the native 64 bit OS code, then thunks back down to the 32 bit. You won't see this on your GPU (unless you now how to look) you'll see this on your CPU.

You can install the 64-bit client from the warthunder website. Run it outside of steam.

Here is a little bit of wiki on a thunk. So you understand.

"Thunks have been widely used to provide interoperability between software modules whose routines cannot call each other directly. This may occur because the routines have different calling conventions, run in different CPU modes or address spaces, or at least one runs in a virtual machine. A compiler (or other tool) can solve this problem by generating a thunk that automates the additional steps needed to call the target routine, whether that is transforming arguments, copying them to another location, or switching the CPU mode. A successful thunk minimizes the extra work the caller must do compared to a normal call.

Much of the literature on interoperability thunks relates to various Wintel platforms, including MS-DOS, OS/2, Windows and .NET, and to the transition from 16-bit to 32-bit memory addressing. As customers have migrated from one platform to another, thunks have been essential to support legacy software written for the older platforms.

The transition from 32-bit to 64-bit code on x86 also uses a form of thunking (WoW64). However, because the x86-64 address space is larger than the one available to 32-bit code, the old "generic thunk" mechanism could not be used to call 64-bit code from 32-bit code. The only case of 32-bit code calling 64-bit code is in the WoW64's thunking of Windows APIs to 32-bit. "

I wonder who demanded this? They say they changed it "by popular demand" who even cared about it in the first place?

I never saw anyone demanding that they remove the launcher from the Steam version. Ever.

Who are these people? And where are they? Gaijin makes the most bizarre decisions and then use the "people demanded it" total BS reason.

Hello guys sorry im late. I uninstalled war thunder from steam and installed it from gaijin's war thunder website manually. Now it runs on 64 bit. Only thing i lost is shift+tabbing to reach my steam friends but thats not big deal for me. Still no performance difference but at least it working as it meant to be. Thanks
