Devs: Future modding potential?
Before I say anything else, I just want to mention that this is a decent game.

However, with some tweaks under the hood, either officially or not, it could possibly be even better. I noticed on the website forum that some major project is in the works for this year. I applaud that, but is any more of the game code as is going to be accessible in xml format?

For example, I agree that only four classes of ships are necessary, but it would be cool if we could add more hull templates for the sake of variety. Then, in addition to the stargates, maybe have an additional variant of the starbase, plus the ability to construct stations in deep space
for resupply or defense purposes.

Another thread has already touched on the option to choose which weapons are used by fighters and surface defenses. But, in addition to the beam armed fighters, I would love
to have an option to work in a missile/torpedo carrying shipboard bomber.

From what I could tell from looking at various XML files, there was a station type called "Space Station". Aside from that, there is a variety of technology items that weren't fully finished - including "Changling Suits", which increases a empire's spy abilities.

Much of the game data is already exposed via xml. So like most moddable games changing of the data is quite possible and some modders have done so. It's also possible to write new quests/content if someone wanted to do so.

The game compiled code/logic on the other hand is in C++ and adding new game features wouldn't be possible without our direct involvement and it's not trivial, since it requires to develop the base mechanic but also the AI and the UI.

In short, those are really good ideas which we have also considered but it would require an expansion/sequel to really see them realized which we will hopefully be able to do in the future.
