Shadowrun Returns

Ok so I am confused
What was going to be new content for those of us who bought the game already has now become something we have to pay extra for? And we are just stuck with the short content that came with the game? I am not a Kickstarter but I did buy the game here on Steam the day it came out with hopes of a real campaign of some kind.

so whats the story?

The Berlin campaign was always going to be free for the Kickstarter backers as a thank-you for funding the game.
The rest of us have to pay for it as a DLC. It's not that big of a deal, and it gives HBS more money to improve the game or any future games they may make.
They look like they are listening to fan feedback judging by the changes listed for the new campaign. That's worth paying for, in my opinion.

I think the Dead Man's Switch is OK, and they told us a long time ago (either in Kickstarter pitch or early updates, don't remember exactly) that they hope that will be not the SR campaign, but a SR campaign and put some effort in the editor. In short, you should search the Workshop for more content. I'm saving it until I can save anywhere.

I expect Dragonfall will be somewhat better now that they have heard our feedback. Its features will probably improve the UGC options as well. Don't know if it's longer than DMS, but I'm guessing it will be. They are saying it's "full-length", but that could mean anything.

So any idea if we dont buy the "addon" will we still get patched in the ability to save anywhere?
If we do get that in a patch because we should get that then I might spring for the addon BUT if they are planning on holding that new much needed option hostage and give it to only people who buy the addon then they wont get another dime from me.

Thanks for your reply also . I appreciate it

I would guess that it's not going to be appreciably larger than DMS. That's just going by what was stated in previous updates (Specifically, the following quote from update blog #60). I'd love to be surprised by being proven wrong, though. ;)

We've heard a lot of questions from you wondering what to expect from Berlin. Well, our original plan called for a modest-sized campaign that we could ship by the end of October. However, after listening to your forum discussions and feedback, it became clear that you would like to see something bigger (and so would we). So, we've decided to spend more time on Berlin to create an experience closer to the size of Dead Man’s Switch.

The update makes it sound that the save anywhere is a feature of the DLC, but I really hope they will add this particular feature in the base game. Doesn't affect me because I get the DLC as a backer, but it just wouldn't be cool to hold it hostage. Not sure. Need more info.

Ah, good catch. I haven't been reading those updates very closely after release. Yeah, somewhere around DMS lenght sounds about right from that info.

i read earlier the save any where feature will also work with the base game, Dead Mans Switch"

"Save Anywhere: You can save your progress at any time during the game. This functionality will also be added to the original Shadowrun Returns “Dead Man’s Switch” campaign. "

Actually, the question isn't if the save anywhere... and editor enhancements (the part I'm curious about) will be backwards-compatible with Shadowrun: Returns. The question is whether we will be forced to buy Dragonfall to receive those abilities.

Given the cost, I would personally prefer to wait until the DLC goes on sale but nowhere do they say that the base SR:R will be updated with those features. If they force users to purchase the DLC to add functionality to DMS, then that is the worst kind of micro-transaction. (Although $15 is hardly "micro-".)

P.S.
I really don't want to spread FUD and personally hope that I'm wrong about the direction HBS is going. That said, if they are planning on updating DMS with any of this functionality, then it seems like there would be a less ambiguous way of announcing it than solely in Dragonfall's features.

Just wanted to jump in to clear up confusion about the save functionality. It will be patched for Dead Man's Switch when Dragonfall is released and will not cost any additional money.
