"Function Pointers Have Moved" error fix

I found that upon playing this game I couldn't load any saved games. I would try the game each passing day and find my save unable to load due to a "function pointers have moved" error. For some reason Steam cloud also wasn't working for this game. Googling the error, I eventually found a fix with a patch, located here:

I simply unzipped it to the steamapps\common\quake 2 folder and voila, it works like it should.

Also, keep in mind that for some reason to quick-load in the expansion packs, you may have to hold down SHIFT + F10 in order for it to work.

I tried the fix on Leray.proboards and could not run the executable file. I got the error message "couldn't load pics/conchars.pcx".
Any ideas?

The patch is meant to be unzipped and overwrite your game files, as far as I know. Seems like you're just trying to run the .exe without having unzipped the patched files to the main folder, so it's trying to access resources that it can't find.
