Am I working my prisoners too hard?
Here is a picture of my regime:

Do you guys work your prisoners a lot? and how long are your eat times? I think I need to tweak my regime a little. I am starting to get problems now as my prison starting grow larger. This regime seemed to work in the early game.

One other questions, what is a good amount of sleep for the prisoners? I feel like I can cut their sleep short some.

Six hours of sleep is about the minimum. If your guys are complaining about sleep, then give them FreeTime or NoTime at 10pm. If they are tired, they'll put themselves to bed anytime after 10.

My work regime is 8 hours. Any more and they start to get testy with bowel and bladder needs. I corral my prisoners in the yard just before Eat time - it gets everyone together and utilizes Eat time better. Meals are always one hour Eat, one hour FreeTime to let the laggards finish their meals.

You're not overworking them – eight to ten hours is what I usually do – but I like to give them about two hours in the middle of their workday. It's not necessary every day though.
I didnt give them any free time, 6 hours of sleep, 6 hours of work and the rest work :D

Yes and no. A free time break would be good in the middle so they can take care of their toilet needs.

My nice prison has eleven hours of work, six for sleep, four for eating and three hours of freetime.

I do 1 hour free time, 4 hours sleep, 1 hour shower, 5 hour free time, 2 hours eat, 8 hours work, hour free time, 2 hours eat. Most use the free time before and after sleep for additional sleep if required.

Mine, I got three meal times thanks to the meal bug and 2 hours because I have to fit 285 people into the canteena. 1116h without incident

(I also have toilet, showers, tv, bookshelf, pool table) in the canteena for the fast-eaters.

might put free time in middle of working so they can go to bathroom. I tried 2 hrs of eat at night, didnt do much.

Hmmm... that seems a lot at least for MAX security. They are a little more irritable, if its med or low security itll prob work. I do 3 hours then 1 hr free time then 4 hrs then food where phones abd tv's are so they have a lot opportunities to meet other needs.

two issues with this:
#1 if a prisoner has to drop a deuce, they have to find a toilet. there's no predictable way to determine which one they might use, so they might spend an hour going to the other side of the prison to do their business.
#2 you can lose your workforce if a few of them decide to Relax on a bench for a few hours. once started, they won't get moving until their Comfort need is completely gone.

The break seems to be working to calm the prisoners down, but I feel like I am losing profit.

I will keep an eye on them and see what they do on that break. I haven't had the chance. I've been too busy expanding and remodeling.

If a prisoner gets testy about working too hard i just have a guard KO the prisoner and send him to solitery for 10 hours, who cares if they poop and pee themsleves. I want mony dang it. >:D

An 8 hour workload is good, but putting a break in the middle of that ruins the productivity, this is cause you have workers walking to the shop, this can take up 30 or more minutes in game. Then if they take a break, its maybe another 30 or more minutes to get back again. A better solution would be to give them a 1 hour break after they eat so they and pee and poo which I find they often need to after eating.

Also, I put a yard next to the canteen, and have them relax in the yard for at least one hour before they eat so that they're right next to it and ready to eat. Then I give them two hours to eat if i have a large population like 100 or more so they have enough time to get past eat other and pick up food.

As for sleep, they only need 6 hours, I put the sleep regime from 12am to 6am (which means the last sleep block starts at 5am), before that you can just put freetime or yard for them to relax and take care of any other needs.
