I can now say "I told you so"
I have been a supporter of the KF franchise from the beginning. Put in nearly 2k hours of KF and had high hopes for the sequel. However, the game never met my expectations. It never reached the level the first one did as far as grit, horror, and atmosphere. Despite all this I have played KF 2 and enjoyed it for what it is and adapted to the kind of play style it demands.

I have been banned on the forums for my thoughts on Tripwire in the past. When they announced the zed economy I said that weapons would eventually be paid DLC. Even though TW said "Cosmetic only" I knew that it was a lie and eventually greed would win. It always does. When I called them out on it I was banned. Sure I used one curse word to express my displeasure but in a forum where thousands of curse words are used I didn't think it was a big deal.

Now after paid DLC characters, an online shop, and loot crates for all cosmetic items we have the one thing people feared would be locked behind a paywall. Weapons now will not be free and be an absurd 10 dollars. This game should be free to play at this point. TW has gone back on everything they said, not that I am surprised since I called this years ago. Its just a shame that TW has decided to turn KF 2 into what it is now.

they do need to make a new bedlam thats for sure. and not a straight copy paste. man that map to me has the same feeling as when you first see the zombie turning towards you in re1. and the soundtrack. sublime. make the new devs go back and play kf1 or put it out to the community. i love monster ball but it's just missing what bedlam had. horror, grit and atmosphere.

With the ♥♥♥♥ show of monetisation KF2 has done over the years, it just keeps getting worse. And not only is this bullcrap $10 for 1 weapon and 5 stupid skins I probably don't even want bad enough, the updates have just been pretty disappointing overall.

The game is a balancing mess and stuff is added that makes no sense. After everybody complained about EDARs they barely do anything to change them, as one example. Then we get lackluster weapons and maps added to the game after waiting a quarter of the year between each one. TWI doesn't even understand how their own damn game is played since they added an automatic weapon to Sharpshooter and crossperking (!?) with Commando.

Perk choice barely matters anymore; cooperation is never encouraged; OP weapons get added to perks that make the perk do something a different perk is supposed to help them with; maps that are not made by the community are BAD; lazy enemy additions that barely add anything to the game (abomination still should not exist); the list goes on.

I can talk hours about how my favorite game turned into hot trash over the years. The only steam game I own with over 2000 hours on it is now uninstalled and I don't intend on playing it anymore. Players have grown heavily uninterested with the game as anything that could symbolize cosmetic progression is usually locked behind a paywall or forced through the crappy vault system that really emphasizes how stupid, out of place (ugly, dumb, annoying, ridiculous, depressing) and worthless most vault cosmetics are. But don't worry, they'll make sure to reward all that playtime it took to get a vault crate with duplicate pajamas and dumb face paints nobody wants.

Like FFS it's a game first, and people to this day still ask for basic features and better balancing to be properly addressed. They add feedback surveys about balance that seem to go nowhere, because certain weapons don't seem to change. And perk balance is god awful, with Sharpshooter's skill lineup seeming like the only balanced perk selection that is unique while other perks have skills so meta that other choices are completely obsolete/outclassed. Nobody would take Eat Lead (for example) unless they were memeing.

And then creative things people do ask for like unique weapon upgrades is tarnished by the fact that weapon upgrades are literally the same stat boost that varies in scale depending on each weapon. It feels like it was just thrown in there like a cherry on top except the cherry is a turd.

Quite frankly, TWI gives the impression that they don't care anymore (and for a while) about the consumers. Adding things people don't want in the game other than the weapons........(which most are pretty bad and the OG weapons are better to use imo while others are broken like the FAL).......hurts the game. The focus seems mostly on milking KF2 dry instead of providing a great consumer experience.

Maybe.......just maybe if they had weapon packs only and completely trashed crates/usbs and keys, I could forgive. But I don't even care at all if the crates have no duplicates, I'm not paying hundreds of dollars for crates until I get the one item out of it that I want. Tripwire chooses to address that issue by scamming people on their in-game store that prohibits any use of steam sales by always making you pay full price, and choose to charge insane prices for crappy "cheese" guns at nearly the full price of the game itself. Meanwhile, the steam market sells them for far cheaper because of the whales that sink hundreds into a digital economy where the devs can artificially inflate numbers at will, meaning rarity is fake.

Imagine if Doom Eternal charged $10 for 1 weapon to be used in the campaign. Is that any better or worse than this game? No.

You can't sit there and tell me that this cash cow of a monetisation system is bad and not generating revenue and then STILL KEEP IT IN THE GAME. If it's bad, the TRASH it. Nobody except people with money maintenance issues likes this sort of garbage.

In my arrogant opinion, if the goal going forward was to trash crates/usbs and just keep weapon BUNDLES as the only DLCs (not $10 for 1 weapon and 5 stupid skins), that would've have been far better to do from the start. Is it still annoying for players that weapons are locked behind paywalls? Of course. But at least at that point you actually buy the thing you were wanting to buy instead of opening crate after crate sinking hundreds waiting for the one item you want. Even worse for Usbs with 3 different qualities per weapon skin.

TLDR:

Game has had horrible financial decisions throughout its lifetime, but lack of developer focus on the game and continuing gameplay issues that get worse with every update combined with now even worse recent changes to monetisation has just made me give up on the game. A game with good balance that makes all the components of its game function well while still making the play styles unique and different is a fun game. Sadly, KF2 is not anywhere close to being that game anymore.

Hate me for my opinion or call me sheep if you want, but these glaring issues have been noted by the player base for a long time. Heck, Tripwire still doesn't understand how to fix their map design to make enemies not spawn 2 feet around a corner and kill you in a doorway you couldn't escape. It's sad.

Edit: I don't want the game to be bad. I want TWI to succeed. However, countless times I've been disappointed with the direction of the game, and now I just don't want any part of it anymore.

i can relate a lot to the first half of the post, this game had great potential.

the biggest problem for me is the lack of better positional audio, which is made worse by the spawning. you can hear in general directions, the volume is mixed, and worse of all is that there's no difference for zeds behind a wall or floor, which is odd because it's possible, it used to work for the chainsaw, and pretty much nothing else.

as for the weapons being paid, its not surprising, i never had either doubts or faith in their statements, i don't know the people behind, and even if i did things change.

I read this whole thing, it speaks so much truth, especially about the in-game store compared to the Steam Market.

For me this game started to get worse since they introduce the Abomination boss, the gas crawler and the alpha clot.

But its nothing compared to these...

Summer 2018: EDARS and upgrade system for weapons.

Summer 2019: Annoucement of paid guns for the future.

R.I.P?



Off-note: I now expect KF3 to release on epic store at this point....
