i came back to the game to get a new version of my all time fav dopefish and they changed it kinda a low blow messing with easter eggs like that .

sorry for quality on the original classic i did that before game was updated but damn i love dopefish i love the original so much and to see it changed to quake 1's version kinda hurts a bit as a fan of the easter egg and a dopefish "but" saying that i am glad to have the new version i guess too

even so changing it is to remove a part of gaming history :3 that easter egg was made a long time ago how do people have any right or reason to change it now after all these years

I guess I can understand that. Sadly that's just a thing with any remaster nowadays. Something in the original will change, usually for worse. (ie removal of Nazis in Doom 2 Unity, the red cross being replaced by a green one in Doom and Quake II, etc)

To be fair, the red cross is unfortunately a trademark.
Not sure if they had rights to use it in the first place, it bothers me too but that's not really their fault, better change it than being sued.

The original looks like the intentions with kill the Dopefish, not make it more a thing, as was a thing happening with iD Software at the time.

I like they used the old version, because it's the more Iconic.

it is not as bad as you think. It is the Doom Eternal Dopefish, just in 2D.

So in a way we could say this was changed with Dopefish's Return in Eternal. Kind of epic and no real nostalgia scandal. It is just the form of Dopefish as we know him today.

diakatana has one of the early examples of a 3d dopefish <3 sure they improve it in other games like sin episodes in 2006 but you got to love a classic baby in diakatana you can find a dopefish in each chapter hidden in his own private room just look for water <3

its why i didnt want them to change dopefish in the first place even if it was a insult in 1997 in quake 2 of him dead it was iconic for dopefish has been around since 1991 a good 6 years before quake 2 even came out and has stood strong for 32 years as he was first made in 1991 in commander keen goodbye galaxy as part of the well of wishes
