Orthos Prime, the weapon that is underestimated
So, I thought I discovered how to properly use Orthos prime. Some people seemed to think it sucks, and that I wasted forma and stuff doing so, and that my build sucks.

Well, my experience proves them incorrect. I was going to make a video to showcase the build, and explain it all, but I wanted to see if videos like that existed.

They do.

And there's some good end game builds, yes, you read that correctly, end game, with orthos prime, I know, take your time to digest that.

I thought orthos prime would become useless at about level 50+, as I had no issue with enemies below level 50.

Boy was I wrong when I saw someone effectively killing level 100-300+ with it.

Here's one video. My current build is very similar, and yes, I've used the BERSERKER mod on it from the start.

The clowns at "Warframe University" put me down for this. How can you call yourselfs teachers when you're so rude and arrogant and closed minded? But this only fueled my determination more.

It really comes down to what you want more: extremely high damage attacks that are slower, and overall a LOT less DPS, or do you want a HUGE DPS boost?

If you want more DPS, watch the following video:

See my MK-1 Kunai do fairly well, if I get headshots, up to level.......30-40. Modded, of course. Pretty sure I wasted forma on it. I purchased regular Kunai, is that any better? Or would you recommend something else?

I would love to main Loki again, and having all stealth weapons would be great.

Lmao I have no words for Lenz. I can't wait to use it.

As for Dread, I fiddle with the mod combo's a lot. I find radiation+viral, and magnetic+corrosive, are good combos. I'm sure there's better ones out there but I've yet todiscover them, I might check the wiki
I haven't played in a while and I never used Dread a lot but I did experiment with it some and found this build to be rather potent on it:
Serration, Split Chamber, Heavy Caliber, Vital Sense, Hunter Munitions, Point Strike, Fanged Fusilade (increase odds of bleed procs and dmg), Vile Acceleration (to make the draw rate actually good... also more shots = more raw DPS and more chance to proc bleeds... which DO stack btw).

You can remove Heavy Caliber for something else if you wish but I had no issues hitting headshots generally with it as you aren't sniping from super far with it that often anyways and there are better weapons for long distance shooting if that is your goal. WIth this setup the extra dmg all works towards more bleed damage which you get from Hunter Munitions + bleed procs from Dread being a heavy slash weapon in general (aka double bleeds). If you take Viral on this build you will hurt your odds of bleeding, and honestly it isn't necessary as Dread proved one of the best killers for my tests against Lv130+ Heavy Corrupted Gunners using this build).

You can always opt to have an AoE secondary that is good at spreading viral on crowds, anyways, if you want to get that benefit.

Armor scaling starts to get crazy the higher level the enemies are with regards to grineer, tho after a while HP can get nuts as well on anything. 30-40 can be treated as nothing more than a level 15-20 monster in an MMORPG.

I wouldn't recommend even the normal Kunai tbh. If you want a throwing Knife weapon the Spira Prime is your ideal choice. This is a very solid crit weapon with solid status chance. It is vaulted so you would have to buy the parts from players. Throwing Knives, in general, aren't good tho but this one is at least viable on higher level enemies.

Loki is great for many reasons beyond just his invisibility. That said, there are mods to silence weapons fire. Loki also has an augment that can silence ANY weapon even grenade launchers like Tonkor lol... Just make sure the target dies pretty much instantly otherwise stealth wont do you much good.

I can't say I've ever seen someone saying the Orthos Prime is bad, but I haven't seen anyone using it at all, nor saying it's good in any form. Compared to the Guandao, I've had a way better experience with the latter, and thus put a forma and a catalyst on it instead. Personally, I feel like the Guandao is ahead of the Orthos Prime, with the exception of status chance.

Compared to Guandao, Orthos has:
  • More attack speed
  • More status chance
  • Apparently a blast proc on slam (never saw it, but Wiki says it)
    but
  • Less damage
  • Less crit chance
  • Less crit damage
  • Smaller Riven disposition (because people care about that broken ♥♥♥♥)
  • More polarities

I believe the idea of Condition Overload can be remedied on the Guandao simply by using a ranged weapon that will do the procs instead, since the mod's description doesn't actually say anything about the procs needing to come from the melee weapon.

So I honestly can't see why people would pick the Orthos Prime over the Guandao.
O.O wow, you both are awesome! Thank you for all of this detailed information! <3 I'll respond mkore tommorrow, I need to sleep, about to pass out ^^ goodnight for meow!

I always liked the idea of daggers being a "high risk, high reward" type of melee weapon, where they keep their abysmal range compared to other melee types, but compensate by doing FAR more damage hit-for-hit than any other melee class could hope to achieve - which makes sense for the signature weapon of assassins and sneaks throughout the entire fantasy genre.

Hmmmm, would you mind sharing your build? I must be doing something wrong, or i simply don't have strong enough mods =(^_^)=
I'm afraid you misinterpreted my words. That was my idea of what the classes of daggers and/or dual daggers COULD be after a substantial rework, not at all an accurate description of what they are currently.

Technically, you can mod a single dagger to one-hit most enemy types in the game regardless of level using Covert Lethality, but it only works on finishers, forcing you to either play stealthy (not valid in endless mission types, since enemies spawn in pre-alerted) or bring a frame with an ability that blinds/stuns/sleeps enemies to open them up to finishers.

Ah, I see what you mean now. Sorry. Thank you for the clarification! Well, if anything, this motivates me to try my damnedest to find a new, better solution to this before melee 3.0 comes out; unless, melee 3.0 leaves us disappointed in the dagger realm.

Unlike the Paris Prime. Literally the first weapon I ever sold to make room for others, let alone it being a Prime.

Primed Disappointment.

Bratons talkin to you later.

I believe the Orthos Prime can be obtained earlier and easier than the Guandao, so that could be a factor.
meta weapons are boring. Yes, they are strong, but boring.
On long run though, they are necessary.

Orthos Prime is a META. But somehow I found my Sepfahn outclassed Orthos Prime.

I don't play much, I have Hydroid Prime, I am convinced by reviews that Orthos Prime with Twirling Spire and stealth build, on my Hydroid prime would be the best synergy weapon to use. I am years late, what's the quickest way to farm Orthos Prime?

Selling relics and buying them on warframe market
Orthos prime. The first melee weapon i really loved using (it feels lot faster too). That and Kripath :).
I never heard of people saying Orthos P isnt great. But always hear other melee weapons being talked about and tbh, i actually havent seen many people using the Orthos . Seems to be helluva lot more swords....Might look at the Spira Prime as i loved the mk1 kunai when i first started (but then ive been hankering for braton prime for a while too hahah).
