Some tips for a newcomer
I'm hoping to focus on the Legion side of things. I joined up and found the first 2 fights insurmountable. I managed to pass the first usually but i'm always low on hp, making the 2nd fight impossible (they one hit kill me)
Is there a place ideal for some 'training' or something early on? Or am I missing something? A way to heal between those fights?

this game is not for the faint hearted.you will die ...A LOT..i already have.its a case of get used to it m8..even all the hard core players die a lot in this game m8.i guess the only thing i can suggest is try not to get in a fight early on unless you really have to..i have avoided a lot of combat through putting points in i think it was called persuasion.

There is a healer in town who you can visit. He'll fix you up for a little bit of cash. Look around the daratan compound near the inn.

Some combat tips:

- the way the game is designed, if you just click on the enemies, you'll die. You have to understand the tools at your disposal (might take a while) and how to use them.

- the only way to understand the system is to try, fail (die), try again, die again, etc. In my opinion, a combat system where you can beat fights on the first try isn't worth playing.

- usually, you're outnumbered, so you have to use tactics to have a chance.

- every choice counts - stats, skills, weapon class and type within a class, armor, dodge/block, etc. Even changing a weapon from bigger to smaller might make a difference in a particular fights. Bigger weapons work great but not all the time, not when you need speed, higher THC (to hit chance), and something fancy (aimed attacks).

- Each build plays differently. You have to understand its strengths and weaknesses.

- While many fights may seem impossible to you now, they are more than doable. The combat system's been tested to death and seen two releases (combat demo and the public demo). So, you can do it, but it won't be easy, which will only make your victory sweeter.

It may be a hard game but damn it is fun... Use the healer and learn the different tactics and keep at it:)

Not just clicking. is there something i'm missing? A sort of tactics or manoeuvres to use?

You have to be more specific. Which fight? What are your stats, skills (weapon, dodge/block, critical strike), weapon class/type, tactics used, etc?

Well after I joined the Legion with my mercenary early on i'm send of pretending to be a bandit. Got killed 2x, got past it 3x. After that i'm automatically forced into a sort of battle with 2 comrades. The survivor can stay in the Legion. But as i don't seem able to heal in between those 2 events they tend to instantly kill me. As for stats. I'm a mercenary with shield/sword and stats were at the time focussed on sword, block and a bit of crit.

Bit more specific? Did you go with the default stats or change them? How high are your skills? If you go to Feng first and show him the map, you get some skill points and a quick quest that can give you more skills points.

Last, which sword/armor are you using?

Save. A lot.

Focus on specific play types or you won't be able to progress any further. I've only had success with either a persuasion, streetwise, etiquette type and a dodge based fighter, min 9 dex, all points go into dodge/cs/sword with shamshir for the 25% counter.

When you're fighting try to find a spot that only a few, sometimes only 1, enemy can fight you at a time. Use fast attacks more often, you have a set amount of AP, so if it's say 10 then you're better off using 2 fast attacks and 1 regular or a 3rd fast than you would 2 regular, unless the enemy is better armored and you need to get through the damage reduction.

I'll need to reinstall to check the stats I had. I had the gladius, roman style armor and helmet (legionnary) and the round shield. - question -> fast attack? So there are different ways to attack. I strongly suspect i was really really playing the game the wrong way not realizing there were things to choose in combat...

A tutorial is coming.

In the meantime, right click on the weapon slot to see all available attacks.

Sometimes it is good to let them come around you ;)

My streetwise, trading, disguise persuasion , dagger, CS, block type Mercenary with 8 Dex, 8 Str, 8 Con could decimate through foes while having liberty to persuade some people(maybe not all). Of course my main lacking side was that I did not touch Crafting or Alchemy but stuff I found was enough to give me an edge.

Back to topic, sometimes it can be benefical to let people surround you if you are wielding a weapon which allows you to whirlwind(especially if it is fast and lets you whirlwind twice) which can knock down people even. (But it is advised to be a tough guy with good block or dodge like there is no tomorrow).

****Spoiler****
Also if you help refugees, you get a good armor, which can be a big aid in Teron at some tough battles.

Its like the fallout system, right click on the weapon box to bring up a drag-down that gives you different options with different AP costs, outcomes and hit and critical %.

Also: You should put a couple points into dagger/CS, not only does dagger skill increase your to-hit with swords, but it also pairs with CS for dialgue options that allow you to insta-kill some opponents through dilague. Also good for a poisoned off-hand weapon, hit a guy first with poisned dagger, finish with sword strikes as he ticks down.

Reload alot. A lot.

Reload alot if you are stubborn to complete a specific thing. Otherwise you don't need to reload that much and you can always move along ;)

Also, remember that weapons synergize. Such as if your primary is daggers, if you put a point into swords it will raise the THC of your dagger skill and vice versa. Some affect each other greatly, some affect minor, you can read their descriptions to see synergizing amount.
