Its kind of an early hybrid FPS/RPG like Deus Ex. Hard to find a copy of. NEEDS a re-release on Steam and/or GOG.
-Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders (Fantasy version of Doom created by makers of Doom id software & Raven software available on Steam)
-Hexen & Expansion Deathkings of the Dark Citadel (Heretic's sequel available on Steam)
Cool stand-alone free mods/indie games on Doom engine:
-Sonic Robo Blast 2 (A fan made Sonic the Hedgehog game better than most official 3D Sonic games)
-Barista (Created by Brendan Chung of Blendo Games. Its a very short but fun mod influenced by Bungie's Marathon series: http://www.blendogames.com/older.htm)
-Hacx (Originally developed as a commercial game and I believe it was for a while. It came out too close to Quake to make a profit and was released as a freeware mod for Doom. Its basically a cyberpunk shooter. OK but has some frustrating level design in the later levels.)
-Batman Doom (From ACE Software, makers of Zeno Clash and Rock of Ages. Extremely impressive total conversion of Doom)
-ZanZan (Also from ACE Software. Can't comment on how good/bad it is as can't get it to work but it looks cool... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7r-O3_eiAFc)
-Wolfenstein 3D + all expansions fully and completely ported to ZDoom. http://www.afadoomer.com/wolf3d/downloads.html
-Another Wolfenstein 3D mod/port WolfenEdge 3D. Difference being this version includes higher quality graphics from the Mac & Jaguar versions of Wolfenstein and also modifies the levels a bit take advantage of the Doom engine like elevators and height differences.

-Doom Nintendo 64 fully ported to PC! A must have if you never got a chance to play Doom 64 on the N64. http://doom64ex.wordpress.com/
I should try these out. Thanks for mentioning!
