HOWEVER, as I said I was still impressed with the reveal. It looks much, much more old school than Doom 3 - it still has a strong horror aesthetic but its clear they are going for balls to the wall action and not just cramped corridors and jumpscares. I like Doom 3, but I am definitely glad they are going the other way in terms of the games pacing and style.
I think Hell on Earth will come next. They said this Doom was to "prove [them]selves again that [they] could make a good Doom game". If they do that successfully, then you can bet your ass there will be a Doom 2 remake too, and even maybe a remake of Final Doom or a fully new sequel!
I doubted it too, trully. I had red flags raised over the fact it was just called "DOOM," the fact that it seemed rather soon after it was announced that the project was scrapped and restarted, the fact that it uses a new engine with Carmack pretty much gone from the company, etc.
But while I am still slightly disappointed its going back to mars and that it's just called "Doom" those truly aren't what matters - what matters is gameplay and they have the right mindset. I'll say that I actually rather liked Doom 3 but I understand why many people didn't or at the very least didn't like the direction it took the series in. However, I am glad that they aren't focusing on making it like Doom 3 - they are making it like... well, probably what fans WANTED Doom 3 to be. There is still a clear horror aesthetic and I'm hoping they will get scares, but there are monsters on screen in droves and the environments are big and hot DAMN are they gorgeous. The mining area with all the lava and the weird futuristic carts flying around was breathtaking. Plus the chainsaw works kinda like the blade in Metal Gear Rising, which means slice anywhere - get genuine results. >:D
BTW I have a question for you Coxsource, I noticed you have a Brutal Doom avatar and it's clear you like Doom and I've gotta ask if you'd maybe wanna join me in some Brutal Doom co-op. I've been wanting to get one started but don't know many people that play Brutal Doom and such. I wanna go through using the enhanced co-op wad that extends the original Doom 1/Doom 2 levels just for that occasion :D If you are up to doing that at some point, add me on Steam :)
