Steam needs a new category "Not A Game"
Seriously, if they are going to keep putting these.....things on steam they need their own category.

Or easier: If there is a greenlight, there should be a redl... euhm... blacklight aswell. Community votes in, community votes out. Or at least a button "ignore this title". Game or not, art or not, it's the opposite of what I'm looking for on Steam. Irritating as those new applications.

No, no, I think you mean redlight. I would take redlight. Your blacklight sounds like something I wouldn't use.

You know you can just simply choose not to buy the game? Are you the type of person who buys female tampons because they say it'll make you life comfortable and you rant about it because you're a guy and it doesn't work for you? People like different things. WHAT?! SHOCKER! It's a REVELATION! Not everyone is a shoot-em-up IN YOUR FACE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fan.

Ignoring the random spout of stupidity directly above me, I am all for this. A couple of complimentary categories along the lines of "interactive story" and "interactive artwork" would be handy for separating many games that are currently categorized under the ambiguous "indie" and "adventure" genres.

Yes because a guy would buy tampons to better their life and enjoy them. Makes perfect sense.

Anal leakage in males--use tampons
No there should not be any sort of redlight(the redlight is by not voting for it or voting "no")
They should add more categories, that would make things interesting

This game is categorized as "indie" "casual" and "simulation," which I think are fitting descriptors. Proteus was categorized as an "adventure" game, and that makes good sense to me. A category like "interactive story" or "interactive art" will just go that much further to delegitimizing these things as games even though that's what they are. Aren't games in general "interactive art," since it's their interactivity that makes them games in the first place?

This game isn't very appealing to me, but I figured that out from the first video trailer (and subsequently every other piece of media I found about it). The categories help with searches that can connect players to games they might like but have never heard of or seen before. Empower the consumer by providing them real information about the game, not these categories that are already nebulous.

A description along the likes of "walk around doing nothing" sounds worse than simply giving it it's own category. You make a good case, but I wonder what sort of 'real information' would actually help somebody without making the game sound worse.

I still say new category. Besides, there might be people into this ♥♥♥♥. They would love a category that links them to Dear Esther and the like.

Another category would be a good idea, not sure exactly what it should be called but there are enough 'artistic games' on steam now to populate such a category - the tale of tales titles, gravity bone/30 flights of loving, proteus, dear esther, dinner date, etc.

I guess there must be over a dozen games at least on steam that slot directly into this category and quite a few others that crossover between this category and another.

I fail to see how helping to categorize these titles in another way would cause problems - it would make it easier for those who want to find such titles and for those who whine about buying something they did not expect it should make it more obvious what they are getting into.

I think the idea of a redlight system where players just vote to have a game removed because they don't like it is bad, any minority interest title would be up for expulsion just because the majority of gamers don't like the idea. I am all for choice, I can always pass on by a title that does not interest me, but if i could stop someone who does want it from being able to purchase it then how is that fair to that person?

On the other hand I do think that there should be a way to highlight titles that have ripped off players, contain too many bugs to be playable and do not deliver on their promises such as the war z. In this case the players should be able to raise an alarm bell causing several members of the steam qc department to have to take a close look at what they are selling.

I think a number of you missed a joke here...

Perhaps "nontraditional" would be a good category for these types of "games".
threepwood 16 fev. 2013 às 20:16
Any kind of crackdown on "non-games" like this one is surely going to make it harder for games like Proteus and Sword & Shield EP which successfully walk the line between game and interactive art. No thank you.

People just need to be more intelligent and inform themselves about their purchases. Its almost always as easy as just clicking the forum button and seeing what others are saying. If anything, I guess Valve could spruce up the forum button on a game page. Maybe make it a color that stands out slightly more and says something like "See what others are saying about this game on the forums!"

Not a big fan of community ratings showing up on the game page either, to be honest. If its a metacritic rating thats one thing, but if you're just showing the results of a smaller pool of reviews it'll be more susceptible to some gamers with agendas coming along and influencing the score one way or the other. I don't mean to paint gamers in a worse light than they already are... but come on, we all know there are people who have no better way to use their time than affecting video game review scores.

If I wanted "interactive art" id go buy a fingerpainting kit. This is the pinnacle self serving intellectual masturbation.

This is as much a game as Dear Esther and Proteus. As in, it is a game.

It has an initial setup, it has progression, and it can have an end/victory condition.
