I think they have to wait for Vulkan-compliant drivers to be released. Shouldn't be long now. I hope...

The Vulkan API drivers have already been released for a week or so now. :)

Well, there are the drivers you have to download directly from Nvidia or AMD, but they have yet to arrive at the repositories of the main distros, and the latest (362.0) Nvidia driver for Windows didn't say anything about Vulkan compliance, either...

Nvidia drivers r364 will feature Vulkan support, and are targeted for release in april. Source: official Vulkan powerpoint from Nvidia, google for it.

The current Vulkan drivers r356 are not for consumers but developers, so the devs of AotS could indeed be working on Vulkan support right now.

I doubt Windows will be doing anything with Vulkan which will only shoot themselves in the foot...

I knew they wouldn't release it yet, I was referring to working on adding the API to the game so that it is ready.

Yep. We plan to support Vulkan after release.

But does this also mean you'll support SteamOS/Linux? Vulkan fixes 95% of portability issues, but I'm sure your game has platform specific code other than the graphics renderer, even if you used SDL2 (which you really should :horns:). So putting out a port will most likely mean extra work and testing on your end, but I do hope you think it's worth it.

I had read that entire thread and when you posted your link (16 hours ago at the time of this writing) the devs still hadn't confirmed a Linux version of their game would be coming, only that they were going to implement a Vulkan rendering back-end. That does not automatically mean Linux support since it could also be used to give Windows users with an OS version prior to Windows 10 access to a low-level, high performance graphics API. However, 9 hours ago (at the time of this writing) a dev posted:

It's good to see a Linux version confirmed.

Old thread, I know, but I want to chime in and add my support for a linux version!

Vulkan will come first. When we speak of LInux support, we mean SteamOS support. So only Linux distributions that support Vulkan are going to be able to potentially run Ashes.
