Wreckfest or Racefest?
Am I missing something with this game? Demo Derbys are so much fun compared to the racing. Career is mostly racing. Would much rather do demo derbys. Don't get me wrong, having fun but mostly in creating my own arenas. Are most people in it for the racing?

Most of us seem to be in it for the racing, yes. Racing requires skill, derbies are IMHO just braindead slogs. Case in point: I usually get up and do something else whenever a derby shows up during online play. Even without moving the car I surprisingly often get a takedown or three and avoid ending up in last place. Either the derbies are just a joke or there are people so bad that they lose to a stationary vehicle... Probably both :-)

I see. Then why not buy a racing game? Or maybe your perception of my simple nature offends you. Either way I guess you answered two questions. One about the game and one about the community.

Thanks!

Demos are better online with real players, but there not to many derbys online, mostly racing.

I race semi clean online, so nice to do a couple derbys where I can let loose and hit players hard!! :)

Demo derby + schoolbuses + moon gravity + pinball = Michael Bay's wet dream

Once you've experienced your first derby like this you're never turning those mods off lol.

I actually enjoy both. It's true there are many races but unlike most games where you get penalty for ramming opponents here you get rewarded. There's something hugely satisfying in bumping into cars in tight corners to get an advantage.

I think you misunderstood - I have no problem with racing rough, just with derbies. Going around a track and nudging or outright crashing into each other during a brawl for first is a blast, waiting to get sideswiped for the fiftieth time while spinning around in a muddy field never getting out of first gear is boring. See the distinction? One predominantly involves skill, the other mostly luck. If you want to be offended by my opinion that's your prerogative, but trying to ignore the fact that there's a lot of good racing to be had here is just missing the point of the game (and trust me, online racing is violent enough to make the derbies tame by comparison).

Take a little skill get the right angle to cut across and get that T-bone, if target don't get hit by someone else first. ;)

And there the challenge of tipping over a harvester and launch the driver. :)

What my point was, if you want a racing game buy a racing game. I thought this would be heavily favoured to smashing things up. Racing or derbies, but hopefully focusing on derbies for my preference. If I wanted a racing challenge I would play Dirt, or some racing sim. I do like racing but again my point is to have fun. To purchase a game that is something I don't already have. This game is different enough for me to enjoy, just wish it was heavier on the derby side of things.

So while you demean derbies, I find them fun. In fact more fun that "rough racing" in this particular game. In my experience rough racing nets a bad finish. Git gud, sure I could do that. Race races until I am bored to tears. OR I could HAVE FUN in my derbies.

Nothing is stopping you from HAVING FUN in your derbies, my friend, just like there's nothing stopping me from HAVING FUN in my racing. The difference is I seem to have a lot more people to HAVE FUN with. I wanted a racing game and I bought a racing game - this one, see? Million dollar rally cars and carbon fiber Le Mans monstrosities bore me to tears, blasting around gravel tracks in old cast-iron junk while creating "unfortunate accidents" for my opponents does not. It's almost as if we have different opinions on how to define FUN - weird, ain't it?! ;-)

Oddly enough I have no use for the derbies in this game. I rather crash or see crashes at higher speeds. I dont like bumper cars. If there is a big enough area it would be ok but I cant stand the monotony of a small field with derby.
Buff-My-Helmut Mar 18, 2019 @ 1:44pm
The larger figure 8s are cool though.
MoDaddy Mar 18, 2019 @ 2:02pm
I started this game off only doing derbies. Then I advanced to ovals, and figure 8s. Now there isn't a track I won't race in the game. You'll find you enjoy racing when you get into the right multiplayer lobby. Playing against teh bots is always more stale than playing against REAL people, regardless of your preference on gamemode. And I think all the game modes require some skill, so it is unfair to say that one gamemode requires only braindead skills.

The derbys and the racing is better online with good, real players ( like Mo )! :)

Them real players can be real crafty, be it a derby or a race online. ;)
