Games similar to Baldur's Gate
I love the Baldur's Gate Series, so much fun and hours upon hours of character development. I especially love the freedom of customizing your character down to the voice. Anyone got any games somewhat similar to this great series?

Icewind Dale series is similar. Planescape Torment is another big D&D game with similar gameplay. Planescape Torment focuses a lot more on story, and if your non-physical stats are high enough, you get a lot of extra dialogue options, and you only have to enter combat a few times during the entire game. You do not really customize your character in Torment though. You play as an existing guy who does not die, and you have to recover and piece together his memories.

I'm currently playing the Icewind Dale series, i'm loving that as well. I might pick up Planescape Torment, I heard it's very good but i'm hesitant for the lack of customization. Any other games similar to Baldur's Gate? Maybe some on steam?

If you have not done so, pick up a copy of Knights of the Old Republic. I would say it is a spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate, but in the Star Wars universe. You can create your own character as well as customize them, but your character does not talk. Not verbally anyway.

The first one was great. One of my top ten favs. I did not really care for the second one though.

Icewind Dale 1&2
Knights of The Old Republic 1&2
Neverwinter Nights 2(a lot like the first game more, but not me :P)
Dragon Age: Origins
Planescape: Torment
Fallout 1&2
I would also recommend Witcher 1&2, but those are totally different...epic RPGs tho.

Neverwinter Nights (Also made by Bioware) is pretty similair

Any Bioware game really if you're into story with solid gameplay (with the exception of ME1).

So in a nutshell:

KotOR
Never Winter Nights
Dragon Age: Origins (NOT 2, AVOID 2)
Mass Effect (to a certain degree)

I love the function of Balders Gate over Icewind Dale, but I like the idea of making a party of my own custom built characters from IcWd. It just sucks that despite being able to build your own characters you're punished moreorless for playing out side of a fighter class...

also fallout series is good including tactics, and I personally hated Neverwinter nights. Just felt clunky, or for some reason I didn't like how the 3d felt. I don't know why, it's like I prefer the idea of a super HD 2d isometric

Temple of elemental evil, an EXCELLENT and underated game... it had a lot of bugs but all of them are solved now.

I would also recommend the Avernum and Avadon series, graphics aren't that great (small dev group) but the story and gameplay are amazing.

Arcanum, if someone hasn't said it already.

I love you guys. And I prefer the 2D gameplay of Fallout and Baldur's gate over NWN's style.. it does feel clunky.. lol

i'd reccomend arcanum as well, it's an interesting system that combines magic and steam tech in one game, with negative interactions between magic and technology, as well as an uber storyline

THIS!!!!!! Also, Planescape Torment, ToEE, Fallout, Icewind Dale. Then there's Dragon Age: Origins, which is a bit more modern, but still very much in keeping with the style of Baldur's Gate.

Dragon Age Origins is possibly the best modern day RPG similar to Baldur's Gate in my opinion. It has all the tactical RPG combat like Baldur's Gate, but with modern day dialogue, voice overs, and graphics.

For older games, Icewind Dale series and Planescape Torment are basically the same game type as Baldur's Gate series.

I also found Neverwinter nights clunky. You should probably like arcanum then. Also, if you like fallout 1 & 2 then you may also enjoy Fallout Tactics. I personally didn't like it at first but going back and replaying it's actually quite fun and has a lot of customization too.
