I might be the wrong person for this type of game...
I really do enjoy this game, and I'm not fully sure why. It's simple, and yet it's time consuming, and I can't help but play more and more. that being said, I really don't the ticket system.

I know it's suppose to be a simulator and all, and I don't know how people drive in Europe, but I want to have some fun too!. I can't be waiting for stop lights, or very stupid AI that just stops there, or worse pulls up to me when I'm trying to move. I have been forced to hit people countless times, and I have had cars just ram into my side on more then one occasion.

Once I was backing up on the road because I was turned all the way. So I backed up and the car waiting for me pulled up and continued to block me. I had to ram the heck out of him. 500e fine.. That's bull.

Also the speeding fines are crazy. I must have spent 20k on speeding tickets alone. Some of those for just going 5 over the limit. I use to work at a bank and I processed those types of tickets. I know for a fact they only ticket people going near 10 over, and it's always at a smaller price.

Well despite all that I still like the game, and thank the designers for it.

p.s. anyone else want like a gun or rocket launcher for their truck so when a person passes you on a two lane road you could just nail them? when did game devs stop putting in fun ideas like that? like a code or password that let's you do that. :)

Haha, you can turn that off if you hate fines. I like the idea but sometimes it's annoying too with the stuff you describe.

I cut and pasted this from someone else's post:

To turn off the police feature:

Find your profile folder
C:\Users\<user>\Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\profile\<hex number here>\

["C:\Users\<user>\Documents\" is the same folder as "My Documents" for the current user]
[I think the hex number is just the hex representation of your player name]

Go to your profile folder.
Open the config.cfg file with a plain text editor (like Notepad)

Change the line:
uset g_police "1"
uset g_police "0"

Save the file! Close the file. Run ETS2, no fines for anything.

You can:
speed excessively - mostly useful if you have increased the maximum allowed truck speed with a Mod but still useful in cities and other slower posted speed limit roads
run redlights
drive on the wrong side of the road
drive without headlights at night
no fine for not sleeping (when fatigue is still enabled)
crash into other vehicles without fines, but you'll still damage your truck

You can turn the police feature back on at any time, just reverse the change in the config file.

ah awesome! Thank you for this, now I can have a bit more fun with the game. As I said before, I know it's not as realistic this way, but I'm still endangering my cargo and sometimes my own truck by breaking the law.

still want a rocket laucher though ;)

Thanks for this, the speeding fines were really annoying me after I turned the speed limiter off.

I remember that train simulator game came out with crazy zombie DLC so maybe this game will get weapons DLC. Anything's possible.

Also is it just me, or is the game being a ♥♥♥♥ when it auto-saves after you take damage?

Going 5 MPH over the limit is still exceeding the speed limit. That's 8km over in km/h. Police in Australia are starting to ping you for going as little as 1-3km over the speed limit. What irritates me is that the fines are one size fits all. I can go through a speed camera in a town where the speed limit is 30 MPH at 55MPH and still only cop a 550 euro fine... That's 40km's over the limit. Try doing that in Australia and you'll be fined over a thousand dollars and probably lose your license for 1 to 3 years.

yeah the speed limits should be adjusted and THEN cut in half because it's by a camera and not the cops. Camera is normally a much lower fine.

It's not bad AI causing cars to hit you and such... it's called good AI since it accurately reflects how stupid people can be IRL in traffic :)

It's working as intended :D

I know people are stupid, but there is such a thing as self preservation. When someone sees a truck barreling down the road, they don't pull out, and THEN stop in the middle of said road.

Even if that's how they drive in real life, I wish it could still be better. One time I was going through the intersection and a random van suddenly appears from the right straight at me and there was no way I could avoid it hitting me.

Something tells me that when people in RL are about to hit to the side of 40 ton truck with tanker full of gasoline or acid then they would actually slam their brakes. :P
YukoValis Jan 22, 2013 @ 8:21am
lol yeah that happened to me with dynamite. I was just in lane minding my own business when someone drove up, put on their blinker, and slammed right into the middle of my truck. Later I hope you get secret cargo like a nuke or something, that would show them! Boom

Im actually surprised that my driving licence hasn't been revoked. I got two speeding tickets in one night in France. (The speed cameras in France seem really trappy)

The speed cameras in general seem to be excessively trappy. Almost all of the ones I've been past are literally 200 feet after an abrupt (and often times nonsensical) drastic change to the speed limit. You have to literally slam on your brakes the second you see the speed camera sign.

thankfully I never have to worry about that again. Thank you Freelance, a person named after an awesome game as well. As I said before, if I want to risk severe damage to my truck and cargo going the wrong way on a highway that's my business, I don't need fines past that. what's more the speeding tickets themselves don't help you be safe in this game, they are just to be an annoying challenge.

Actually, my name is from Sam and Max: Freelance Police and not Freelancer (which I'm assuming that's the awesome game you mean). Their game, Sam and Max Hit the Road, is indeed awesome though.
