CAN`T START OR PLAY THE GAME? LOOK HERE

Welcome to Kingdom Wars, and if you are reading this post I`m guessing you're off to a bad start and probably really ♥♥♥♥ed off, and rightfully so - these bloody developers - selling junk that won't start.

Well lets try to get this resolved for you now shall we. Please check below for various symptoms and solutions.

Before trying anything else please try this
Re-Validating game files on Steam may often fix start-up issues as well as help player who are experience frequents crashes and other bugs
1) Open Steam find Kingdom Wars in the Library
2) Right click on Kingdom Wars, and go to Game Properties
3) In Game properties click on Local Files, and select Re-validate game files.


My Client crashes All the Time
Please follow the following steps:
1) Bring up Task Manager, Go to Processes, and if PnkBstr process is running please disable it
2) Delete your DoF user folder
-Click on the organizer button in any folder. And select Folder and Search options. Go to view, and under Hidden Files and Folders, or Drives - click show hidden files.
-Now navigate to C:/users/YOUR USERNAME/AppData/local/DoF/
-Delete that entire DoF folder
3) If you are not playing on high visual settings, try check-marking all the items on the left in the options, but leaving Water/Shadow/Draw Distance on your current lower settings




Connection Timed Out error
If you get this error when creating your account or trying to login to your town, please try the following
1) Restart your computer - in most cases it`ll fix this issue
2) Restart your Internet Modem/Router - turn power off, wait 10 seconds, turn on. Wait 5 minutes after
3) Disable Anti Virus and Firewall - and if that works, re-enabled it and set DoF.exe and or Mithrill.dll as exception


Game Crashes on Startup on First Run
If you are getting a crash the first time you are starting Kingdom Wars, please follow these steps
1) make sure you restart the computer before playing - if you haven`t this could cause that.
2) Disable Anti Virus and Firewall - and if that works set DoF.exe and or Mithrill.dll as exception
3) Try installing C runtime libraries. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555
4) Try getting the latest .Net Framework For Desktop - http://www.microsoft.com/net/download
5) Uninstall the game on Steam (delete local files), and re-download
6) Set Administrative Permissions
-Go to your steam directory ex: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dawn of Fantasy
-Alter the properties of Dof.exe
-Compatibility Tab Check "Run this program as an administrator" and also check compatibility mode for "Windows 7"
-If you get Microsoft Visual c++ error box, do not close it - just play and ignore the error


I played fine, but now it crashes on startup
To fix this you would need to delete the Local Saved Data File
1) Click on the organizer button in any folder. And select Folder and Search options. Go to view, and under Hidden Files and Folders, or Drives - click show hidden files.
2) Now navigate to C:/users/YOUR USERNAME/AppData/local/DoF/
3) In that file, locate and delete file called local_saved_data


Kingdom Wars always crashes
To fix this you would need to either set correct Admin permissions, or set a certain folder to be NOT read-only.
1) Click on the organizer button in any folder. And select Folder and Search options. Go to view, and under Hidden Files and Folders, or Drives - click show hidden files.
2) Now navigate to C:/users/YOUR USERNAME/AppData/local/DoF/, Right click on the DoF folder, and select Properties
3) Un-click Read-Only, and click Apply. Select to all folders and sub-folders when prompted.
4) Set Administrative Permissions
-Go to your steam directory ex: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dawn of Fantasy, right click on DoF.exe and go to Properties
-Compatibility Tab Check "Run this program as an administrator" and also check compatibility mode for "Windows 7"
-If you get Microsoft Visual c++ error box, do not close it - just play and ignore the error


Mouse Doesn't work in-game
1) Go to Windows Control Panel, look up Font and Icon size options
2) Setting icons/fonts to medium size
3) If that doesn't work - you might need to restart your computer
4) If you have a fancy mouse with it's own acceleration software - try disabling it


Online Kingdoms Registration issues
1) Copy Paste your CD key, using Cntrl + V command. Note you might need to hit the keys twice for it to work
2) Disable Anti Virus and Firewall - and if that works set DoF.exe and or Mithrill.dll as exception
3) If you get error - the key must be 25 or 29 characters long - check the key, try entering it again and again, sometimes it might take couple of tries
4) If you get error - CD key already in Use - please contact [e-mail] and let them know there is an issue with your CD key.


Online Kingdoms says you need to Patch the game
1) Right click on Dawn of Fantasy name in your Steam library, and select Properties
2) Switch to Updates tab, and select - Always keep this game up to date
3) Wait a minute, or if game didn`t update, restart steam (completely shut it down and start it again)


Units are Stuck
If your units become stuck on your homeland, please follow these steps to free them
1) Switch to world map, create new army, and move the stuck unit there. If you are not sure which unit is stuck you can first mark him using Garrison button on that unit
2) Now transfer the unit back from your army to your homeland, and it`ll spawn on the map.

In your case you can try playing Online Kingdom - shouldn`t have any issues. But with Kingdom Wars - please try the following:

1) Click on the organizer button in any folder. And select Folder and Search options. Go to view, and under Hidden Files and Folders, or Drives - click show hidden files.

2) Now navigate to C:/users/YOUR USERNAME/AppData/local/DoF/

3) Right click on the folder, and go into Properties

4) In Properties window un-select Read Only, and click Apply to all sub-folders

I just bought the game yesterday and couldn't work Kingdom Wars, i tried following this thread but dof.exe always selects read-only automatically again............ :/

Sorry for bugging but could you pls answer in the next few days? I've been playing online the last week and it's really awesome but I'd like to try single player and as Kingdom Wars still crashes as soon as I start it (and I've tried your instructions about 20 times) I'm really♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥off, as you can immagine :/

If Kingdom Wars crashes, I`m afraid there is no good solution we can offer at this point. Our programmers are looking into this but it might take some time:( maybe even two weeks, as this issue only effects a few players right now.

Meanwhile I suggest Online Kingdom - it has everything Kingdom Wars mode has - and more.

I cannot start the progam at all, when I do a black screen appears in the top right hand corner of the screen and nothing else, after a while it says the program is not respondins and I have too c;ose it down I have tried the solutions recommended above but it does not work. I have an i7 toshiba laptop so should have no problems running it.

The game will not play after the microsoft visual C++ comes up. The game was working fine for days then all of a sudden this error appears. I have done the suggested fix but the error still appears. Please help.

In the main menu - click on Online Kingdom, and click New Account button.

I have an issue with the game. I just purchased it, yet it refuses to start. When I clicked on the install now after checkout, it just froze my steam, and after I restarted, DoF doesnt show up in my library. It says i own it, but the only way to access it is from the Store page, and when i try to play, it freezes my Steam for about 2 minutes and then nothing happens. I really hope i didnt waste good money on this.

This is a bug with Steam that couple of people reported. Restart ur PC, and start Steam, if u still don`t see it, restart Steam again until it finally shows. Some players had to restart Steam 4 times to make it show.
