I was excited about rebirth when I saw it too, drooling on the edge of my seat, but I really doubt it's going to cause me to turn away from KV.
I've already preordered XR. But it will be totally spacearcade with all its "Space Highways", sectors and such (X is more submarine simulator with fully transparent water). And KV is more spacesim with figuratively unlimited speed, solar systems instead of sectors, some physics, etc.
I think both are very good games, but very different.
Kinetic Void could perhaps be a good alternative for those people
I sincerely hope KV becomes an awesome game series, or just the one project that out lasts and out does EVE and others alike :)
Once we get trade and mining (... and dare i say fleet management XD although not listed in the features to be) and all the spacey goodness, KV will be unstoppable
Multiplayer.
