If I become a founder can I bigger maps?
Basically if I become a founder I'm going to provide feedback.

And the feedback is pretty much always going to ask for bigger maps.

Like, until I can play for an hour with 8 major races and not encounter anyone, and first contact becomes a huge event, I'll be like "Needs bigger maps"

And also like maps with lots of space between stars because space.

Right now the only supported maps are small ones. But as the alpha and beta progress larger and larger maps will become available

Map sizes are moddable.

I like your style.

Sadly the alpha is only small and tiny maps, but we are planning on having even larger maps than GC2, so stick around.

I love super massive maps here too. When I play civilization, it takes 3 days to complete a game of at least 5 hours per session because I put it on the largest map size and marathon settings.

You will never make the maps big enough to fully satisfy me, but I challenge you to try!

Considering that fact that this game is fully 64 bit which allows for the creation of some serious map sizes, challenge accepted.

bigger maps? Use all my RAM? wow thats impressive, this will be the first game that may actually use more than 1/4 of my 12gb of RAM. Can't wait for that!

I remember when Gal Civ 2 got the Huge Maps and they weren't big enough and I was all like "Needs bigger maps" and devs were like "They're as big as the AI can handle, we're having to rewrite it just for the big maps you got" and I was all like "Darn"

And then came a mod, and it was good, but the AI had to be modded too.

I want a map so huge, so huge...

That it takes like an hour to get from one side to the other with maxed out everything, and I have to send probes to build warp gates and space stations that take like centuries in game time, because faster than light speed just ain't enough.

Come to think of it, I want maps so big it's an ordeal just to even reach the next nearest star. Like in Gal Civ 2 the stars were all bunched together, so you'd reach a star and be all like "Yo I have like 4 other stars in my radius" but scale that in a bit and be all like "Yo, I finally reached another star, it's like an Island in the ocean and I can see other islands way off in the distance but barely"

They've said that the largest maps will require dozens or hundreds of AI players to fill up, so I guess you can begin preparations to celebrate :3

I understand how you feel; big maps are my viagra.

so if making races is as easy as before I could have: every star wars faction, all the EVE online empires, all the races from mass effect and stick cobra in there somewhere? AWESOME

That'll be my default setting.

We were discussing this today.

A few things on this that we plan:

1. Map sizes that easily support 100+ players (computer players, we plan to strictly limit the # of human players to 4).

2. Using Steamwork shop so that custom players can be shared (Your custom races will be stored in my games\galciv3\customraces\<yourcustomrace>). Sharing it will mean zipping up the directory and submitting it. While our races are BINK (animated) you will be able to either make your own BINKS (if you have the tools) or you can provide a PNG.

3. Similarly, race personality and unique mods to them will be stored in there as well.

4. Similarly, custom ship designs for them so that each race can have its own unique types of ships.

And now you know why we needed 64bit. :-)
