That said... if you want to PVE you will have to get your own server or get in good with someone who has a passworded server. That is the hard truth.
Oh and don't use any mods at all cuz they aren't shy about banning people and next thing you know you are back here crying that you were banned for no reason.
So yeah... it's complicated. But... I haven't been killed by another player in more than 10 days so for me it works. It helps if you are aware that what people say isn't the same as what they mean... and with practice and experience you know what to ask and what sort of answers mean what.
Public servers don't bother. totally full of hackers most peple using ESP
Play with friends is OK on private servers.
Solo play is no fun at all.
metacritic score is about fair for what they tested at the time, some of which is better now, some of which is worse.
For PVE you have to play on a private server:
A few of us rented a server to PvE on when the first server rentals came out. Most of us were bored with it by the end of the month (mostly because the map is so small). But definitely if you want to PvE you MUST play a private server or else you are wasting your time.
Almost all of us who were playing WarZ Pve in that server are now playing DayZ Origins in a whitelisted PvE server, and absolutely loving it.
personally I found the game a total waste of money, you either love it or loathe it, but my opinions are tainted by the last siz months and expereinces of hammerpoint and paying for stuff like stronghold servers that they promised for end of november that we have still never got so make your own mind up.
One tip: if you buy it, use a fresh email address because that is your game login, then you can give it away/trade it if you don't like it.
I would really like to give away my copy and loot, and the stronghold server I pre-paid (if ever they get released) but its tied to my main email address.
This is a shame because although I hate this game and hammerpoint, if I'd used my brains I could have gotten a fresh email and at least given it awayt to someone who would have enjoyed it.
If this situation ever changes (hint: fanboys pester hammerpoint to let users change their game login email address) I'll give my full game and loot away here.
Goodluck to you all.
