Infestation: Survivor Stories 2020

Infestation: Survivor Stories 2020

Misleading Title: Where are the "Survivor Stories"?
When I first saw this game, I thought it would be some kind of story-oriented post-apocalyptic survival adventure.

I know that the game used to be called The War Z. This seems like a more appropriate name than "Infestation: Survivor Stories". The name, "War Z", is obviously similar to "DayZ", but at least it makes more sense than "Survivor Stories". The "Infestation" part makes sense, but there is no bit of storyline or plot to this game at all.

We are just thrown into a mysterious zombie-infested world with no background story or knowledge about our character at all. This would be fine for most hardcore survival games, but if the game is called "Survival Stories"... is it too much to ask for an actual story.

I hope that the new game, "Infestation: New Beginning", actually has to do with a "new beginning". Usually a "new beginning" in a post-apocalypic survival game would be survivors trying to rebuild in a ravaged world. But realistically, I think it the name is just a clever way for the devs to say that they want to start out fresh and want us to forget about the disappointment of the first game.

You are writing your own story as you play.

And to answer your question, yes, it is a lot to ask for an actual story.

Yes I realize that. It needs writers, screenwriters, animators, voice actors and lots of time and effort to make a story in a video game. All I meant was that If they did not want to go through all that, then they should not name the game "survivor stories". Makes it sound like we are going to hear the story of multiple survivors.

I get what you mean by writing your own story, but the title could be misleading. The only real story you can create is. I picked my character, I spawned, I collected supplies, I killed zombies, I saw people, I died.

Let me repeat myself again. Stories are written every play through every day.

If the only story you can come up with is THAT, then this game truly isn't for you.
Let me repeat myself as well. Not very interesting stories. "I picked my character, I spawned, I collected supplies, I killed zombies, I saw people, I died." No dialogue, no plot. Barely a story.

Its not the story I would make. But it is the story I experience in the game

This game is about your own imagination and interpretation. It is about role-play. No story is comprised of just the results, which you have laid out. This game really isn't for you if all you think the game is about is "Kill, Loot, Die"

"I really fell in love with the game when I first started playing and ran across another survivor.
I was low on food and hurt. I stalked the other player from the hill top as he scavanged a trailer park. I knew at that point, if he were to clean everything out, I'd be dead before I found the next place to loot.
I slowly walked down the hillside as I lost vision of him behind some buses. I arrived at the bottom of the hill only 20 or so feet away from where I last saw him. When I turned the corner I heard rustling inside an RV. I pull out my knife and stepped in behind him. I regretted every moment up to that point. I slowly walked in looking closely at every shadow and shade and I could finally see the back side of his backpack and a bat hanging from his side. I knew if I were to turn and walk back out, I'd be surrendering myself to my emminent death and I wasn't ready to give up just yet. I crept all the way to his flank, which felt like half an hour to move up 10 feet.
As soon as I was in range of my knife, I could hear my own breath in real life and I couldn't hesistate anymore. I squinted in fear as I swung my knfe to the back of his neck as I repeated anxiously on my microphone "I'm sorry, I'm sorry...""

Ok, I am sorry we started this fight. Didn't mean to upset anyone. All I wanted to say is... I consider this a survival game. A game purely about surviving in a world filled with zombies and untrustworthy humans. But I think a title like "survival stories" would seem like a title for a game like Telltale's Walking Dead.

Don't get me wrong. I like role-playing games where the point is to tell your own story, and the story you came up[ with was pretty good. I was just hoping the game would be more based on a pre-set plot. Instead, I just ended up getting a game I had already seen done before (Day Z, Rust, etc). Sorry for any misunderstanding. Kudos to you for defending your point.

No one here is fighting.

Ok sorry. Wrong choice of words. I did not mean to bother someone to the point of having to waste their time talking to me on a forum thread. Really man, I don't want to get on anyone's nerves.
You are right, the game is probably not for me. I expected one thing and got another. I fail to accept a simple truth. I should just stop complaining. Again, sorry for wasting your time.

Ahh your thinking about a background story about how the whole thing came to be a zombie apocalypse(infestation) well we/ppl have been asking along time for that but they kinda went down the Dayzroute where you make your own story as you go along. But could be cool with some static notes or paper pages with some background info. Back when the "notes" that you could leave ingame was persistant think it was a day, i loved dropping some at random places with small stories where one note would lead to the next and so on. But gonna give OP right the genre in general could do with way more story and lets hope they remmember it for NB but personally i think they are going to make the same as with the current ISS.
It feels like it would be more 'diary entries' than stories to me too. I like lore, but the very (very very) small background they gave for the game (5 years after the zombie apocalypse) made very little sense sometimes. It would've been interesting to have some story to it though, I agree.
Story driven gameplay is very very difficult to accomplish in a multiplayer game like this. It can be done in singple player games or with multiplayer co-op, but I've never played a multiplayer pvp centered game that had any success at weaving a story into it. This is because building a story almost requires things like scripted events, cutscenes, and pre-planned dialogue (even if you have a few choices of how to respond it is still all pre-planned) with pre-placed NPCs. I can't think of how this would work at all in this type of game.

Yes, I agree. Making a story driven game is difficult and expensive to pull off. I don't want to see a story added (far too late for that), but I just want to point out that the title does not properly reflect the game. Similar survival games keep the titles simple. You don't see Day Z calling itself "Survival Tales", or Rust calling itself "Apocalypse Entries". Personally, I think "Infestation" is good enough of a title for this game.

I doubt they could get a copyright for just "Infestation". I'm sure it's already taken by someone. (There was a playstation game with that title, but no idea who owns the copyright at this specific moment)
There are notes made by the Devs of the game in the original map, I didn't care much for them, but there was a story to it.
They just slapped on a name after being threatened. Who cares, just BUY it. BUT IT BUY IT BUY IT!!!!!
