-- PLEASE READ -- Frequently asked questions
Hello everyone!

The purpose of this topic is to make the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions easily available in one place.
We will be expanding as needed.

Q: Do I need a copy of Half-Life installed to play Sven Co-op 5.0?
A: Nope, version 5.0 is a fully standalone game!

Q: Is this game really free?
A: Yes, the game is completely free and will remain so.

Q: Are you hyped about the Steam release?
A: Yes.

Q: Can I play the game under Linux?
A: Yes, there is a native client available for Linux.
It's still somewhat early development though, so rough edges here and there are to be expected.

Q: What about Mac? Can I play it on that?
A: While this possibly is doable through an emulation layer, like Wine, native compatibility with MacOS is quite a way down on our to-do list.

Q: Will there be workshop support?
A: Workshop integration for custom content is planned for the future.

Q: Will we ever see Steam trading cards, achievements and emoticons?
A: We've been so hard at work on the actual game, that allocating manpower for these things has not been a priority.
It's ulikely that any of this will be implemented.

Q: Will there ever be a Sven Co-op: Source?
A: No. Sven Co-op will never be running under the Source engine.

Q: I found a bug!
A: Great stuff! Please share it with us here.[forums.svencoop.com]

Q: I'd like to set up a game server, how do I do this?
A: There's a fairly extensive step-by-step guide on hosting servers available here.[www.svencoop.com]
Server configuration guide here.[www.svencoop.com]

Q: I'm a server operator, can I install AMXMODX on my 5.0 server?
A: Yes. Firstly you will need to grab Metamod-P recompiled to work with our game here.[forums.svencoop.com]
Keep in mind that this is supplied and maintained through a third party, so use at your own discretion.
Then simply install AMXMODX on top like you normally would.

Q: I'm running my own server, how can I disable survival mode?
A: Add the following line to your server.cfg or listenserver.cfg file found in the game directory:
mp_survival_mode 0

Q: Where can I read about all the new changes, features and fixes specific for 5.0?
A: The full changelog for version 5.0 can be found here.[www.svencoop.com]
Changelogs for all subsequent releases are available here.[forums.svencoop.com]

Q: I'm a veteran and have noticed that some maps previously shipped with the mod aren't included in version 5.0 :'(
A: Some maps had to be left out for the official Steam release.
The maps that have been cut between 4.8 and 5.0, many of which have received updates, are available seperately as a mappack here.[forums.svencoop.com]

Q: I like what I'm seeing. Can I support the development of the game somehow?
A: We have a page set up regarding donations here.[www.svencoop.com]

Q: I've donated in a previous version of Sven Co-op, will I still have my cool player bonuses in version 5.0?
A: Of course! We sincerely appreciate your support, and your donator status will follow you in the game forever.

Q: The game runs but doesn't fit the resolution of my monitor, and I can't access the options menu to change it!
A: In the game launch parameters under properties in your Steam games library, append the following:
-gl -w 1920 -h 1080 -full
http://peecee.dk/uploads/012016/launchparameters.png
Change the numerical values to whatever your actual screen resolution is and launch the game again.

Q: How do I change the Field of View (FOV)?
A: Enter the following line in the developers console:
default_fov somevalue
Default is 70

Q: I'm getting a couple thousand millisecond ping times in online play and/or get dropped with a "Reliable channel overflowed" message, help!
A: Try increasing the amount of network traffic allowed to pass through your client over a given amount of time, by entering the following line in the developers console:
rate 50000

Q: My performance (framerate) in-game is poor and dips under certain circumstances, is there anything I can do?
A: Try one or both of the following solutions, depending on which type of graphical element is causing you trouble.
- lower the maximum amount of particles the game will render, by entering the following command in the developers console:
cl_particles_max somevalue
a value of 0 will turn off particles altogether.
- disable the rendering of dynamic light sources (this includes the flashlight) with the following command:
r_dynamic 0

Q: My computer is super old and/or is a laptop with only an integrated graphics card (Intel HD), how do I enable software rendering mode to get better performance?
A: The legacy software rendering mode found in older GoldSource engine titles has been decommissioned. Sven Co-op 5.0 only supports rendering through OpenGL, which can cause performance issues on older and low-spec hardware.

What's the approximate time to be added to the list of donors when you've made a donation?

The primary (and recommended) render mode is OpenGL yes, your only other option really is software but that is mostly terrible.
The game should work and run under any Windows operating system between XP and 10, anything particular that makes you suspect OpenGL isn't supported in 10?

There usually isn't much delay for this.
Once your donation has gone through and been accepted, the bonus features should be in the game near instantly.
We have a donor list hard-codeded into the game as a fall-back, but it utilizes a network lookup to check if a player is a registered donor now since a couple of versions ago (I can't remember exactly which one).

I'm sure this has been asked before but if we own all goldsource Half-Life games do we get a bonus, or can we play the expansion pack levels? currently installing Sven Coop and so hyped to play!

Hosting servers isn't for everyone, it is advised to at least know the basics of networking before starting out.
The guide is extensive to reach a broader audience and give more people a better chance at succeeding :)

A new low definition model pack for weapons would rely on somebody from the community making it available - as far as I'm informed, the developers don't have plans for such a pack.

Our game has support for the campaigns of both Opposing Force and Blue Shift.
If you have either one or both of those game installed, you can use the batch scripts found inside the directory of Sven Co-op to "mount" the content and make it playable in the game.

All I can say is that our main programmer for Linux is a very busy guy.
Please get in touch with either Sniper[forums.svencoop.com] or AdamR[forums.svencoop.com] if you feel you might be able to help out Linux developmenet :)

Hello, my game keeps crashing whenever I join a multiplayer game (I played a LAN server with only myself and it worked fine) like 10 seconds into it. I can't tell if this is because of servers being bad or something on my end.

AMD Phenom II X6 1090t
16GB RAM
AMD Radeon R9 290x
Windows 7 Ultimate

Hello, I've been having trouble getting my resolution to fit in my screen, and my computer can fit 1920x1080 resolution (I also happen to be using Dual Moniters.)

Also, while trying to repeatedly change resolutions, the game constantly crashes due to restarts. It would be much appreciated if you could help me in whatever way you can, and have a good day!

Sadly, it still isn't working properly. The bottom part of my screen is cut out and the rest of the screen to the right cuts into the second moniter. It doesn't stay fully on one screen.
