How do you unlock the quest to get the La Longue Carabine.

I know you can get this gun without killing Corporal Sterling but I cant trigger the quest to get the gun and I cant seam to find a guide to do it. I really don't wanna kill Corporal Sterling for his unique cowboy repeater but I wanna do a 100% cowboy weapon run and everyone knows what that means in a fallout game.

There is a sort of trick you can do here by effectively breaking the gun while he holds it. But you still have to steal it.

Someone claimed that if you kill Cook-Cool and help Betty with her Trauma then he will give you the rifle and some ammo. I’m going to test this on my current playthrough and see if that actually works to confirm or debunk this.

That's is pure ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. You certainly won't get gun this way. Only way is pickpocketing or kill him.

If Sterling gets killed in a mission you can loot his body. It's unlikely but Driver Nephi could get a lucky hit and take him down.


If you didn't yet kill Driver Nephi Talk to the Lt. to get their assistance then don't actually help in the fight, granted the entire Alpha team will be there, so it's them vs 1 raider with a golf club so... You'll need to be lucky, there is no other way aside those already mentioned.

No. I have no interest in his gun, I assume that would turn them hostile though.

If you shoot a gun out of a persons hands it does not injure them allowing you to put your weapon away and end the fight.

The post was more for OP who actually wants the gun and everyone is suggesting things like kill him or steal it, or use the console command to add it to his inventory. Course shooting it out of his hands then running to snag might still count as stealing.
