What Plane would you like to see in DCS world?
Like the title states and I guess ill start it off since I created the thread ( lol ) I would love to see a fully clickable F-4 Phantom II- Would go really well with the upcoming Mig 21 release we can have a Vietnam era showdown!...... And just a couple more that I think would be really cool to see as well- A fully clickable Mig-31 foxhound Interceptor!..........That would be insane in my opinion! Also a F-14 tomcat would be pretty darn interesting and maybe a Mirage F1 fully clickable of course. What do you guys think?

Well, assuming that they figure out multi-seat aircraft (and also AI to help in them since I don't always want a real player in the back seat), I would like a F-14 but if they can't, I would rather a MiG-25.

Either way, it would be many years before anything other than what is already being worked on sees the light of day.

Yeah I didnt even relize those were 2-seater aircraft ( slaps head ) But that would be kinda interesting 1 person pioliting the plane and the 2nd player being the weapons officer! Kinda a cool concept for DCS if you ask me. Why do you think its gonna be so time-consuming to come-up with some new content>?

The A-7 corsair II would be awesome if they would finish it. Any way here is my list.

1. F105 Thunderchief (I Really Really would love to have this plane.)
2. F4 Phantom
3.F100 Super Sabre

yes they are all vietnam era planes but it would be cool to have them fighting alongside the UH-1H and the AH-1G.

The one I really agree with is your Number 2 pick lol- the A-7 is a cool plane nonetheless.

Yeah Id like the F4 too but im not sure if two maned aircraft can be simulated well in single player, anything from the Veitnam era would be great.
A harrier in the falklands, no big range missiles just sidewinders I think Id like that alot.

The creation of a module for DCS is a pretty intense procedure, at least for proper DCS modules, I would not say that stuff like Flaming cliffs 3 counts really as it has far less detail.

Anyways, in order to make a really good module, they need a ton of documents and source material to draw from, this means that the aircraft has to be old enough to be declassified (for the most part), on top of that, they need some access to the real thing as it makes the job easier for artists and sound engineers.

When they have gathered all the data, they need to build the whole thing from the ground up, the whole plane is pretty much simulated so it is not simply a matter of using a generic electrical, hydraulic and fuel system model, you have to do it on a plane by plane basis.

The other big issue is the fact that Eagle Dynamics is also working on flaming cliffs level aircraft (I feel the concentration on this is a mistake that might cost them in the long run) and the EDGE graphics engine, both of those seem to have the lionshare of development resources currently, if that were not the case, we would be hearing more about the F/A-18.

Still, as it stands, they have said they are working on the F/A-18C module and even then, Matt Wagner has posted that they will not be doing much in terms of news or announcements until this summer, that could very well mean that we are looking at perhaps even a year more after that until it is ready for release.

It will be a long time before we see anything that has not already been announced from Eagle Dynamics.

3rd parties are a different matter entirely, Belsimtek is showing ED how it s done, they have two modules out already and are coming out with two more before the year is out, still, they are not making modern fast movers either.

The MiG-21Bis is supposedly on track for release late next month, after that, they have the MiG-23 planned, that could take a while considering the size of the team.

Other 3rd parties are saying that they will make this plane or that one but a lot of them are too modern and thus will be largely based on guesswork due to not having access to classified information.

Also, a few 3rd parties are on shaky ground at best, a lot have already kinda faded away.

In closing, making these modules is complicated and takes a lot of research as well as development, considering the pace that ED is keeping when it comes to releases, it will be a long wait for the F/A-18.

I would kill for a DCS level MiG-31 Foxhound...or it's predecessor the MiG-25...but first ED has to sort out multi seat operability..

Mike seems to know his stuff huh?........ I honestly had no idea that much work was involved in creating an aircraft for these games,But I guess a proper moduel like we are talking about would require alot of work! I dont mind the Fc3 level of detail either, Look at how nice they made the f-15 cockpit for fc3-Iam pretty confident the f-15 isnt declassified, as well as the su-27 but then again those arent full moduels either right Mike>?..........Strato I think the Mig 25 came 1st then the 31 is the 25s predecessor? ( if iam not mistaken )
StratoCruizer Feb 8, 2014 @ 7:45am
Yes the 25 came first ;) as far as i know the 31 is it's evolution, with updated system etc..

I was under the impression that the "study sims" put out by ED often have their inception in real life/government contracts. That is the reason they are sporadic and often cover odd aircraft. Yes, I know the UH-1 is iconic, but it is a odd bird to include rather than say the AH-64 Apache. (Which if memory serves ED was going to make but stopped because they could not get access to information they needed to make the sim, it being classified)

The current issue of PC Pilot magazine (Jan/Feb) has an interview with one of the designers wherein he states that the A-10C sim is derived from a contract they had to develop a sim for the U.S Air Force to help pilots transition to the "C" model. Part of the contract was that ED could then publish a version of it for the public. (After the USAF "sanitized" it for confidential info.)

But to answer the OP's original question; I would love to to see the AH-64D Apache. I was very excited when cockpit design images surfaced back in 2009 from the project and they anounced it would follow Blackshark. Though it looks to have been canceled.

A proper MiG-29 and F-15 would also be cool, likewise as stated F-4, MiG-21 would also be nice.

I would really like a proper F16, or at FC3 level.
Or maybe a proper bomber would be nice, example: B1B
husky Feb 8, 2014 @ 6:53pm
The F-117 Nighthawk or Stealth would also be a cool bomber for Dcs world.I could of sworn I saw on some website that a Harrier was in devolopment for Dcs,if theres any truth to this iam gonna be a happy camper!.........I also wonder if they could make a SR-71 blackbird that could fly 3000 miles an hour ( in game ) talk about wasting 5 hours on the computer huh>? lol
husky Feb 8, 2014 @ 6:55pm
Tom- I agree with you but I think the Mig 29 Fulcrum is getting a new cockpit in Dcs world or at least thats what it says on the Menu screen- a fully clickable 29 would be soooooo awsome!

Given that the requirements for a module be a study sim, I don't understand why the Falcon 4 crowd hasn't abandoned their old game, and put together an F-16 module for DCS. The F-16 has already been well simulated. Even different blocks in that old game. That vast pool of knowlege should be tapped to make an F-16 module. That's what I'd like to see. There's an entire market there that's untapped: bring those old Viper drivers over to DCS.

I would like to see a MiG-27 or Su-24 (at FC3 level)
