DCS World Steam Edition

DCS World Steam Edition

So...no Tornado?
Sry if this came up more often, but i searched the forum and only found entries from 2013 and 2014...

Anything changed or still no Tornado (ECR) available for this series? That would be the only machine i´d REALLY be interested in to even bother with a hardcore sim like DCS...

I don't know if any third parties are planning this, and it's not really a question of when but if. It's not so easy to get actual data on newer planes, whereas the situation can be the opposite for older aircraft. For example, the most modern full-fidelity fighter module at the moment is the MiG-21bis.

I'd strongly suggest you to try some of the currently available aircraft, but I guess in the end I only fly the ones I'm interested in as well. As far as 4th gen fighters go, a few are in production at the moment. M-2000C is slated for a december beta release, and at least F-14, F/A-18C and F/A-18E are being produced with unknown ETA.
well...considering the Tornado is about 30 years old now and will be out-of-duty (in europe at least) around 2020,i´d not call it a particularily "modern" machine, although the ECR Tornado has still it´s values... but all in all it´s fro around the same era as the Mig 29, and one of those with most known details on top ^^

anyway, thanks for the info, even if it´s rather bad news for me, but you know: don´t kill the messenger :)

i might give the F14 a shot... maybe...Top Gun and all xD

That is actually quite modern considering what planes are in service today. Newer variants/derivatives get built, the ones already in service get refurbished and upgraded and so on. The airframes haven't really become obsolete over the years, it's the weapons and avionics that have needed upgrades. Aircraft don't necessarily get phased out because they're obsolete but because of metal fatigue.

As for the late 90s / early 2000 designs, they're very unlikely to make it to DCS due to the data availability thing. I'm surprised the Super Hornet is being made. All in all you could say that stuff based on real data makes for a much more fun simming experience than something half-built upon guesswork.

With that said, the early 4th gen fighters sound like a good thing for DCS, and I definitely want more Vietnam-era jets to challenge the MiG-21bis (which is hands down the best DCS module right now imho).

It seems I haven't followed the news and the Super Hornet has actually been on hold or cancelled since early this year. As for future modules, I wouldn't exactly hold any hopes when a third party developer speculates that they might do a certain plane in the future, it might never substantiate. Both ED and the 3rd party devs probably have plans for many aircraft but it's a completely different subject if they ever enter actual production. Too many ideas while it takes a considerable amount of effort turn just one into a working module.

Yep. Even when there's people working on a module, it will take several years to produce simulation of modern aircraft: they are so complex to produce in DCS level of detail and accuracy.

Various developers have hands full at the moment and getting information on some aircraft (like the super hornet) is just too difficult to produce accurate module. In some cases there is a mil-spec project before actual consumer-level project (A-10C was such a case, Eurofighter Typhoon is in similar situation).
